Bookmark editor automatically moves pages to last used folder, if new folder is used, continues to move pages to the same folder

Fairly recently, I've noticed that Firefox will move sites automatically to a folder, fine and dandy, until it keep sending sites to the same folder despite me wanting to fill another folder. Example: browsing for computer components then looking for home improvement items, since the computer parts folder was used first, Firefox will continue to select the computer folder, when I select a different folder, in this case it's home improvement, I have about 2-3 seconds to hit save bookmark before it re selects the computer component folder, is this a feature? is there a way to disable it? or is there something else going on, any help is appreciated, it's frustrating

The "Edit This Bookmark" dialog that opens if you click the highlighted star has a checkbox with "Show editor when saving" (shortcut key in the dialog is Alt+S). This item is at the bottom just above "Remove Bookmark" and "Done".

The editor shows up, forgot to clarify, I can't describe it all that well, but even in the editor it will automatically select the last/most used folder and if I'm not fast enough will re select said folder, I have to quickly select the desired folder and bookmark it, diagnostics show the system is fine, so it may be a bug or something, I might be able to screen capture it in action if it helps at all.

I have the same problem recently, selecting the most recently used bookmark folders in the editor only places the bookmark in that folder for a second and they flip right back to being put in the most recently used folder. A work around I found is in the bookmark editor to use the arrow next to folder to "Show all the bookmarks folders" and select the folder you want off the big list. It's definitely a problem with the bookmark editor that suddenly appeared with the last update.

I have the same problem when bookmarking sites. I can pick one of the recent folders that display in the drop down list as well but it always reverts back to the most recent no matter what. The only work around I've found is selecting choose every time I bookmark and picking the correct folder even if it was displayed in the recent list.

Hmm, mine always selects "Other Bookmarks" in the drop-down when clicking the star in the address bar or when using Ctrl+D ("Bookmark This Page" shortcut on Windows).

I wonder if any of you have a different setting or an add-on that directs Firefox to re-use a frequently used folder?

I restarted in safe mode and it displayed "Other Bookmarks" originally so I bookmarked a site under a folder that I chose. When I went to add a second bookmark it exhibited the same behavior and defaults to the same folder I just chose.

Mine does that to, but the most annoying part is when I change from "other bookmarks" to "bookmark menu", it automatically changes to the most recently used sub-folder in the bookmark menu. I can change to a different sub-folder, but unless I manage to click OK/save within 2-3 seconds of that, it keeps jumping back to the first sub-folder.

I have a secret - Just click on the name field right away. Then, the editor will display long enough for you to select a folder and decide to Save.

(I looked for a timeout in the config entries for this but, I can't find one)

Actually, to be more precise, after some more troubleshooting, I've found that the folder it jumps back to is always the last chosen from the "full" menu. That is, choosing one among the "recent folders" and saving within the "timeout period", before it reverts to the "default" folder, still doesn't change the preferred folder next time the dialogue box is opened.

In another recent thread, a user found this -- having Firefox change a folder you just selected back to the previous folder -- to be linked to using Sync. I don't know why Sync would override folder changes in the middle of the folder selection process, but if anyone experiencing this issue uses Sync, that is a potential culprit to consider.
