Artificially Slowing Firefox Down. who is the culprit ?
Hi Everybody, im Dr Nick. Firefox 52 is my love. i have tried younger models. but i always come back too ole faithful.
Shes got all the right shapes. sizes. and feels. but these days speed is lacking. despite my upgrading both my core2 duos. too a core2quad. and a hex core xeon. both 12gb ram They both run quite fast, but much slower than they used too. infact, they are slower than the firefox, on my pentium 3,4, and HT AND my core2duo / 4gb laptop. with the latest firefox ? wtf.
I am being throttled i tell you !!!. i have slimmed her down, and run only add blocker, and crypto mining blocker.
But its not youtube that is so slow... its everything, the whole firefox browser. [ this is the bit that bugs me ]. i run comprehensive firewall ] and not even alex jones can explain who is doing this.
is anyone doing any research too this end ?. or have any russian software too prevent it ?.

At this point, Firefox 57 is out of date as well. The current version is Firefox 68.0.2.
The problem with YouTube and many other video sites is that Firefox requires the Windows Media Foundation to decode H.264/MP4 video, and Microsoft only released that software for Vista and later, not for XP. But YouTube transcodes most videos to WebM format (at lower resolutions) so you should be able to play most, with some exceptions like live streams that aren't transcoded until hours later.

Hi Dr. Nick, there were major changes in Firefox 57, so you can't expect Firefox 52 to perform like never versions. It just doesn't have the modern plumbing.
That said, if your Firefox has slowed down, you could flush out the browser cache (disk access can be a bottleneck compared with a fast internet connection) and experiment with disabling individual extensions.

P.S. Support has ended for Firefox 52 and it is considered insecure.

my reasons for using version 52, may now be redundant. - initially apon the release of later ESR versions, - the problems with Sun microsystems ownership of the JAVA extensions, and indeed similar issues, a little later with H264 codec licencing, - meant for me; immediately after the release of a newer ESR, i was unable too access most youtube videos.
Even though my Box is very clean, i do run XP religiously. - but i have no problem with a newer firefox, once it actually works. ( after of course, dialing in an IP ADDRESS block into my firewall too stick a stopper in those blasted automatic updates !! )
So Thankyou Sir, perhaps running 57 is better, and Ebay, ETC ETC will work without problems, despite no visible changes ;=D

so no matter what version i go for, - i will not be able too watch live streams. - due too windows media foundation.
so i think i will just stick with 52 and xp64.

- although still no idea why the whole package has been massivley slowed down. ;-D, as of a particular morning in april, despite my firewall and blocked updates... i think its a the CIA equivalent of planned obsolescence mediators
