Firefox crashes on startup and does the same in safe mode. I tried downloading the latest version and deleting Library Application Support files, but it does the same. It must be a user setting of some sort because I can create another Mac user account and Firefox opens fine.

This is a new machine running Mac OS 10.14.2 and I've not been able to use Firefox yet. The only terminal settings I've changed, from what I can recall, is to help with font smoothing (https://ahmadawais.com/fix-macos-mojave-font-rendering-issue/) and messing around with dark mode (option to be in dark mode but only for dock & menu bar). I'm unsure if those settings are related but thought I'd mentioned it. Other than that this is a pretty much brand new machine.

Thank you for posting the report number.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

If you are sure the problem is in the old profile, what we can do is to create a new, clean profile, and then move parts from the old to the new, +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles

When you are ready, we can start moving parts of your old data and Copy it to the new profile.

First; open your file browser to the New profile;

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Linux: Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Directory. To its right press the button Open Directory.

Second, open another file browser to the Old profile. You should see it on the directory "tree" in the first file browser. Right click on that folder and select Open In New Window.

Warning ! ! Only Copy the files you are told. We will avoid anything that might cause problems. Here is the list of files;

cookies: cookies.sqlite Do not bother. Cookies will be created when you return to the website. However, you will have to log in everywhere. And you may lose any settings that websites store on your computer.

extensions(add-ons, themes): it would be better to download them fresh. If you need to remember what add-ons you had, open the extensions sub-folder and look at the .xpi files ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ logins.json and key3.db [v58+]key4.db : These are the password files. Copy Both !

persdict.dat : custom dictionary - words you added to the dictionary

mimeTypes.rdf [v55+]handlers.json : What to do with what type of file.

places.sqlite : History and Bookmarks.

prefs.js : Your settings. Note: If you were having problems, this could be contaminated.

cert8.db [v58+]cert9.db and possibly cert_override.txt : Stores all your security certificate settings and any SSL certificates you have imported into Firefox. If removed, the cert8.db, cert9.db file will be replaced.

search.json.mozlz4 : file stores the user-installed search engines that are available in the Firefox v47+

search.sqlite file and searchplugins folder store the search engines that are available in the Firefox Search bar before Firefox v47 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Copy these files from the old to the new. You may get a message that the files already exist. Choose to over-write for each file.

Thanks for your reply, but the problem is that Firefox crashes when I try to open it it so I can't access Firefox at all.

I'm unsure if this helps, but here's other crash report numbers.

Thanks for your quick reply, but no luck.

The profile manager will not open for me (because Firefox crashes) so I tried terminal but it also gives me the same Firefox crash error when it tries to open.

Deleting the profiles.ini and Firefox folder within Application Support unfortunately didn’t work.

I called for more help.

Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox. Try Secure websites. Is the problem still there?

Thanks

I rebooted into safe mode and then opened Firefox and it still immediately crashed just like before.

Just wanted to follow up to point out that in my original post I mentioned that I could use Firefox on another Mac user account on my machine. Unsure if that info helps with troubleshooting, but there has to be something either corrupt or conflicting with my current mac user account.

[Edit] more info...

I booted Firefox into safe mode and it still crashed but when I clicked "restore firefox" I see this (see attached) blank overlay.

I downloaded Firefox Developer Edition and it seems to work fine, but would be nice to use the public version. Correction: Dev Edition opens but gives blank menus just like the previously uploaded image. See new dev edition image example.

Well, I bit the bullet and just moved everything to a new account on my Mac.

As before, Firefox still doesn't work on my old mac account but works fine on the new one.

Thanks again for your help and I hope no one else has this issue!

Sorry I could not give better information. Check with a Mac support site.
