When typing in the address bar, firefox no longer allows me to click the suggested bookmarks, it just briefly flashes them then hides them before I can click

It used to be where firefox would suggest bookmarks or websites from history as I typed into the address bar. It still does very briefly as I type but its for a fraction of a second then it goes back to search. It will only stay open if I have only one letter typed, as soon as you enter another it goes back to just flashing, even if you are typing it exactly as the bookmark is labeled or as the URL is written. Windows 10 firefox 56.0.1

pictures added to try and clarify, one shows results with just typing one letter, the other shows what happens after 2nd. each subsequent character will flash the bookmarks like the 1st picture but then snaps back to the 2nd picture before I cna click. Happens with every letter, all bookmarks. Tried toggling bookmarks and history in bar suggestions under options>privacy>address bar with no results, still happens no matter what setting I'm using.
