I continuously have this issue with 1 pc in my 75+ pc environment controlled by SBS.

Printer is a Kyocera KM-3035 PC is Windows 7 32 bit Professional

It doesn't send a message and it backlogs the printer with other print jobs from other users, so this is quite an annoyance.

This is how I fix this issue, Browsing to the "Prefs.js" file and editing it, finding all entries that start with "Print_" and deleting those entries. It works until the system restarts. Then I have to do it all over again.

Why does this continue to happen? Can anyone point me in the right direction? As i've stated before, 75+ pc's and ONLY 1 having this issue. Most of the users use Firefox or Google Chrome. Nobody except for 1 user is having this issue, and it's only with Firefox. I've tried to get her to switch to Chrome, but she won't... Older user, hard to change their ways once they are set in stone...

Any help would be greatly appreciated, she's a wonderful person and it's upsetting to her that she's causing all these "Paper Jams" she's afraid to print half the time for fear she may cause a back log... I don't want that, I can't have that. Please help.

What are the settings that are being reset and causing that Jam? And what do those settings change to after an OS restart?

Settings that deleted from the prefs.js file shouldn't get set again for that printer, until that printer is selected the first time after the prefs "reset" AND the printer is used.

Overall, those print_ settings all have to do with margins, footers, and headers settings. I can't see how those types of settings could cause a printer to "jam".

more options

It doesn't "Jam" per say, it just stops, and asks to insert the right paper size to continue, so it creates a backlog of print jobs because there is no "error" message to pop up saying, Hey Printer is stuck on an error bc of page size.

I'll have her restart her PC and have her reproduce the error and copy the Prefs.js BEFORE Deleting the entries, and AFTER deleting the entries.

Those are the print settings in the prefs file that makes it print to the bypass tray. I have to delete the "Print.Printer_" for it to go to the automatic tray.

more options

I'm way over my head here, as I have very limited experience with "server" shared printers and no experience with multi-tray printers.

user_pref("print.printer_\\\\SERVER\\FrontCopier_BW.print_paper_data", 256); - that looks very strange. I wonder if that is the tray setting? I would expect to see a setting of 1, which iirc is all I have ever seen in Firefox.

Do any other users in that 75+ pc environment (controlled by SBS) also have one of those Zebra label printers installed locally and then printing to that shared printer?

And can you pinpoint when this problem occurs for this user? Like maybe only after printing to the label printer?

more options

Yes, a few of us have a zebra installed locally and networked. And I thought I did pinpoint it, after the PC has been restarted, but I restarted it and it continued to print normally.

I'm having her print a label, and then open up firefox, and print the home page. But it is still currently working properly.

I have the most printers installed on my PC, as Head of the IT Dept, I need to make sure I can make a label and assign it to the right printer for printing. NOT ALL of my printers are listed in my prefs.js file.

You are right however, "user_pref("print.printer_\\\\SERVER\\FrontCopier_BW.print_paper_data", 256); - that looks very strange. I wonder if that is the tray setting? I would expect to see a setting of 1, which iirc is all I have ever seen in Firefox."

Mine is set to 1... and I have no issues.

Currently, I had to delete out the "Print.Printer_" settings this morning from her prefs.js file, and it's still not populated with the "Print.Printer_" settings; even after printing multiple times within firefox, to both the zebra and the front copier.

Not sure when they get re-populated. I logged off, and logged back in, and they still weren't there. So I can't check them at this moment. But when they get re-populated, i'll be sure to check that.

Any ideas on what that 256 is? If your thinking it's the tray, then holy crap, that's a monster printer... And I wonder what changes that "setting"...

more options

Printer settings should become set in the prefs.js file as soon as something is actually printed.

Any printer that was used in a Profile should be in the prefs.js file. I have prefs from before some of the print prefs were slightly changed back in Firefox 5.0; two different sets of preferences for the same printer right now - one set from before the change and one set from after the change.

"Any ideas on what that 256 is? If your thinking it's the tray, then holy crap, that's a monster printer... And I wonder what changes that "setting"..." Prefs aren't always linear. And I'm not too sure of that being related to the tray right now. I just did a Google search for "Mozilla print_paper_data" and found a few old threads in different forums where resetting that pref to 1 fixed an issue with a postage stamp sized printout when that settings was at 256. Resetting that back to 1 solved the user's problem, in most cases.

I also searched the Mozilla Cross-Reference site - http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-release/ - to see what developer comments might be in there regarding "print_paper_data"; didn't find anything to define values for that pref or provide any leads as to what it is for.
