Can't change archive settings for Yahoo. TB won't change from "archive by year" to "archive by folder".

I'm trying to re-organise my Thunderbird archive so that Yahoo messages are archived by folder instead of by year. I've changed the account setting to keep message archives in Local Folders and selected "single folder" and "keep existing folder structure", but when I try to archive some recent messages they still get archived by year. The file list on the left of the main screen lists an Archive with sub-archives Local Folders and Yahoo. Is there a simple way around this or am I going to have to delete and re-create my Yahoo account?
