I am currently trying to access the log in on a secure banking website - in this case its the Royal Bank of Scotland website. Many of the domains contained within the website seem to be okay to browse but when I try to click the login button on http://www.rbs.co.uk/personal.ashx it presents me with an untrusted connection error.

"This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Firefox to connect securely to www.rbsdigital.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified. What Should I Do?

If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.

www.rbsdigital.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is not trusted. (Error code: sec_error_untrusted_issuer)

If you understand what's going on, you can tell Firefox to start trusting this site's identification. Even if you trust the site, this error could mean that someone is tampering with your connection.

Don't add an exception unless you know there's a good reason why this site doesn't use trusted identification."

As this is a banking website I wouldnt expect it to say this.

I curently have Firefox 29.0.1. I have Kaspersky 2013 running and Trusteer runs in my browser Version: Emerald Build 1307.76. Running Windows 8.

There is no padlock on the untrusted connection screen where trusteer verifies the site. But this doesnt appear on the web address on http://www.rbs.co.uk/personal.ashx either.

I have spoken to an RBS advisor this morning on chat to ask about why there would be an issue and they have said that its a firefox issue. They suggested re-installing Trusteer and Firefox or updating to the newest version. Something that was already done. I have also used microsoft malicous software tool remover incase there should be malware and I have done a full scan with Kaspersky.

If I use Microsoft Explorer then I can access the login on the website http://www.rbs.co.uk/personal.ashx with no issue.

The time on my pc and router was also checked to make sure that it was correct.

If I look at the page info in firefox for the untrusted connection it says This web site does not supply ownership information. Connection not encrypted.

The Mozilla website seems to suggest deleting the cert8 file. This was renamed rather than deleted to cert8.old and cert8.old2

I just went on the website, it loaded perfectly fine for me. What I suggest you to do is the following: It will cause you to lose extensions and some preferences, but it's likely to solve your issue :D

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.

  • Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.

To Reset Firefox 29 do the following:

For Firefox 29.0 and above:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information.

Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.

  1. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Reset Firefox"Button reset. Click on it.
  2. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  3. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.
