Hi,

Someone sends me a calendar appointment for 11th of May at 16:30-18:30 and another at 18:30:20:30. I accept these appointments. In my calendar, they correctly display at these times.

When I close and re-open Thunderbird, the first appointment is now scheduled for 12th of May, but the second is fine. When I close and re-open Thunderbird again, the second appointment is now scheduled for 12th of May as well.

The times are completely different too.

I'm using Thunderbird 138 from the Arch Linux repositories but I've also tried the Flatpak package to no avail. I've tried setting my Timezone manually and using my System timezone to no avail.

GNOME Calendar, which is also synced to my Caldav server, displays the appointments at the correct day and time. The web interface for my mail server also displays correctly.

It's only Thunderbird that screws it up time and time again.

This has been going on for years and it is driving me insane. I can't use my calendar with Thunderbird because I keep thinking my appointments are at the wrong time!

Send help.

After almost three weeks of hacking I finally solved my [are not working] problem. (It was very difficult, including creating a new `https` setting and hand-editing the profile's `handlers.json` file.) So now I can finally open links in emails like I could in TB 102 before upgrading to 128. Since I have "Always ask" set, I get a dialog with a choice of which web browser to use. All good.

Problem is that the browser dialog pops up a minimum of once per hour whether TB is open (not minimized/iconified) or not. (I leave TB running at all times, often for months at a time.) This is annoying, particularly because the URLs are to internal TB infrastructure, usually but not always https://notifications.thunderbird.net/2.0/notifications.json.

What should I do with these JSON links? Many don't even have a filename in the URL, so I can't save them in my profile folder even if I wanted to. If TB wants them as updates shouldn't it know where/what to do with them, and do it? I suppose I could turn off "Always ask", which I don't want to do -- would TB handle the URLs correctly then? Or would it just open the link in the default browser and I'd be worse off than I am now? (I usually just "Cancel" the dialog and don't go to the URL.)

It would be even better if I could completely turn off all notifications, period. I always have "Check for new messages every ... minutes" turned off and manually check my POP/IMAP messages when I want to. I'll update TB when my Linux distro has a new version. In fact I've always noticed that TB runs continuously as a background process, adding a small percentage to a CPU core's usage. Is there any way to turn this off, too, so that TB is completely quiescent until un-mininized and "Get Messages" or "New Message", etc. is clicked?

Any help appreciated. I've used Thunderbird exclusively as my email client for over 20 years, and IMO these kinds of new features and the breakages they cause have made things continuously worse since the days when I used TB 68 and 78. BTW, I've tried all the above in 115 and 137 with the same problems.

Sometime last week, my snap thunderbird package updated to version 128.9.1esr. After that update, clicking on the Thunderbird icon in the dock starts thunderbird under a generic icon that appears on the right side of the dock (showing the dot indicator under it), rather than showing the thunderbird icon with the running indicator under it.

I am using X11, fully updated Ubuntu 24.04.2, with Thunderbird installed as a snap. Work correctly until last week. If I start the application manually from the command line, same generic icon appears. (If I start firefox snap from the command line, the firefox icon shows the "running" indicator under it as it is supposed to.

Note: Thunderbird IS running and running fine - I have not found any other issues, just this potential regression.

Anyone have any ideas? I thought I would post here before filing a bugzilla bug report. I was not able to find any mention of this (or a similar) problem in the last year.

Thanks.

Hi, I have a strange experience with thunderbird's calendar: an hour or two after i created a new appointment in my calendar, i cannot change this appointment anymore. When i do so, this appointment is not saved anymore when i click on "save & close". When i alter and save this appointment within the hour it works normally and the item is saved as expected. I searched the settings, but nothing could be found concerning this issue. My OS: Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS. Thank you very much for your efforts. Wyl. Holland.

I am running Thunderbird on an older HP Probook with Debian 11 installed. On April 9 or 10 the machine did an OS performance and security update and after that Thunderbird will not open. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program to no avail. It will not open from Gnome or Terminal. I am not that technical but I know there is a way to fix this. Also I need to make sure my emails are not lost. Thank you, Jimmy Rone

Hi @ all,

When using TB as a LDAP-User, logins.json and key4.db are NOT created on the (mounted) home directory.

here's my setup: Debian 12 with a local user as well as remote users, administrated via LDAP. PAM-login for local and ldap users has been setup and is working. Automounting of network drives is working. Each LDAP user has their home directory stored on a Fileserver and mounted upon login. All applications are working as intended except thunderbird.

So far I've tried to run gnupg locally instead of having it start a session from the (mounted) home directory, assuming that gnupg is the corresponding means of de/encryption. I've copied the profile of the local user to be used as the profile of the LDAP user, logins.json is completely ignored by TB.

Upon starting of TB, passwords are asked for and are remembered in the session. But passwords/logins are not stored and available for the next session.

Any ideas?

Hello, I recently updated Thunderbird to version 136 on my Linux system (Solus with Budgie desktop), and I noticed that a native tray icon now appears in my system tray. This was not the case with previous versions, where Thunderbird would run without placing an icon in the tray. The issue is that Thunderbird now shows an icon in the system tray, and I would like to disable it. I have already tried the following methods:

1. Editing the prefs.js file to set: `user_pref("mail.ui.showTrayIcon", false);` But this did not remove the icon.

2. Checking Thunderbird's settings for any option to disable the tray icon, but I could not find anything that addresses this behavior.

3. I have also checked the system tray settings in the Budgie desktop, but the icon still persists.

Is there any way to completely remove this tray icon in version 136? Is this a known issue with this release?

Any help would be appreciated!

This only happens to Gmail. I also tried Outlook and this didn't happen.

Hi,

I installed thunderbird in a new computer via flatpak. The computer is running PopOS 22.04 and the current Thunderbird version is 128.0esr.

I don't know if this happened after the last update from 127 to 128 or was like this before, but on the compose window all the menus and buttons on the top row are completeley invisible, white on white (if I hover over them, then they are slightly visible). See the first 2 images.

The main window is OK and everything is readable (see 3rd image).

I don't know how to change these colors.

Any help will be appreciated.

I'm using a VPN on my computer and phone and when I try to connect to the mail server, Thunderbird gives me an error saying that the mail server has disconnected. But when I disconnect from the VPN, everything works. This happens only with one mail server, on the others everything works OK even via VPN.

However, the the mail from this server is coming to my phone (where I use K-9 Mail).

I also tried to connect to the mail server via openssl, with the command "openssl s_client -connect mail.server.net:993 -crlf"

The connection is successful (when I'm on the VPN), but when I enter the command "a LOGIN my.username MYPASSWORD", it gives an error:

a NO [UNAVAILABLE] Maximum number of connections from user+IP exceeded (mail_max_userip_connections=20)

I have set the "Maximum Number of server connections to cache" to 1 in Thunderbird, I have set to check for mail every 12 minutes (it already was 15 minutes on the phone before), and it is still the same.

Any idea how to solve the issue? I am connecting to this server with the same username and from the same (VPN) IP only from my phone and my computer, so I find it really strange that there are more than 20 simultaneous connections...

Thunderbird's Calendar displays time for events from Google's calendar (probably other network calendars too) incorrectly. For example, i create an event with "New Event", select "Calendar: <my gmail account>" and set "Start: 15:00", "End: 16:00", then "Save and Close". Thunderbird Calendar displays it as from 16:00 to 17:00. "Use system timezone" is selected in Calendar settings. When i open "Edit" dialog for the event, time in "Start:" and "End:" fields is also incorrect (16:00 and 17:00 respectively). However, when i go to "Options" and click "Show Timezones" it becomes correct (15:00 and 16:00). Disabling "Show Timezones" leads back to incorrect time. Web page and other applications display time for the same event correctly (as i set it during creation). The same error for events created not by Thunderbird but on web page or other applications. Thunderbird 115.9.0.
