Japanese characters usually do not render.

I can reproduce this issue by:

On YouTube the text renders only if 1.27916663885116563rem <= font-size <= 1.92083328962326036rem. Increasing `gfx.font_rendering.fontconfig.max_generic_substitutions` from 3 to 99 allows some punctuation to render and makes the text take up horizontal space. Further increase of the value to 999 causes the interpunct to render in the Wikipedia page.

Asian Language Input Method Inactive in Webpage Text Fields After Navigation via Bookmarks or Copy/Paste in Firefox 135.0.1

Description:

In Firefox version 135.0.1, when navigating to a website by clicking a bookmark or by pasting a URL (without first activating an Asian language input method in the address bar), Asian language input methods are inactive within webpage text fields. Only English characters can be entered. Switching languages or input methods has no effect.

Steps to Reproduce:

  • Open Firefox 135.0.1.
  • Navigate to a website by clicking a bookmark or by pasting a URL into the address bar (do not activate an Asian language input method in the address bar before navigating).
  • Click on a text field within the webpage.
  • Attempt to activate an Asian language input method.

Expected Result: The Asian language input method should activate, allowing the user to enter characters in the selected language.

Actual Result: The Asian language input method remains inactive. Only English characters can be entered.

Workaround: Clicking on the address bar and activating an Asian language input method there enables the input method to function correctly in webpage text fields afterward. This workaround persists for all webpages within the same Firefox window. Alternatively, if the user first types an URL into the address bar, while using an asian language input method, the problem does not occur.

Environment: Browser: Firefox 135.0.1 Operating System: Windows 11 Input Methods: Microsoft Chinese Input and Microsoft Japanese Input (both exhibit the same issue) Websites: Google, Bing, Yahoo and other websites.

Additional Information: This issue does not occur in Microsoft Edge.

Google chrome, Microsoft edge (they recently added Uzbek languages, I think because I gave a feedback) and Brave supports Uzbek language. I do not directly translate the website from English to Uzbek but I want to learn some words while I am browsing by just selecting it and the quick translation. Google Chrome has an extension (Google translate extension) which can do this even more efficiently. But this extension in Firefox doesn't do it. I want one thing: please add Uzbek language so that I will be able to just click the words and see the quick definition. Or at least, if you cannot add Uzbek, please add a feature that enables me to click the word and the short English definition (let's say like Cambridge Dictionary or AI). It would also be helpful for my education.

I have tried several times to translate Hebrew to English using the translation beta, but Hebrew is not listed. Seems odd, given the prominence of Hebrew-speakers in the tech industry. Will you be including Hebrew in the set of languages supported soon?

Thanks, Sam

How to always have Google Translate open weblinks in English ?

Does anyone know how on Firefox for Windows 10., Pro. - 64 bit / Firefox Browser Ver.: 136.0.2 (64-bit): How to Always have Google Translate open Weblinks in English&nb… (les mer)

Does anyone know how on Firefox for Windows 10., Pro. - 64 bit / Firefox Browser Ver.: 136.0.2 (64-bit):

How to Always have Google Translate open Weblinks in English ?

I have some software programs on my laptop:

  • Advanced SystemCare (from: IO bit)
  • Smart Defrag 10 (from: IO bit)
  • Driver Booster 12 (from: IO bit),

and in the program, to open it's "User Manual", it redirects it to open an online manual, in a web browser, that seems to always open them in: "Sprache auswählen" language format, which seems to be of some German language orgin (upon trying to ID the language format & the form in of itself).

I'm using "Bitdefender VPN". Within Firefox browser, how do I get weblinks to require them to be opened in a browser, & to get them to be on an English version of Google Translate ? / here's the homepage of Google Translate: https://translate.google.com

Do I always need to disable: "Bitdefender VPN", just to have them properly open, without using a VPN of any kind ?

I oringinally thought that "Bitdefender VPN" is behind this, cause it's a VPN after all, & doesn't ID that i'm based in & within the United States of America.

I find this very strange why these weblinks open these pages on Google Translate, in some form of German. GOAL: i just want to find a fix to just get these links to: "auto-open", in English, on the Google Translate domain.

Please let me know if anyone has any idea's on how to fix this (& is there an approved Firefox Extention or Add-On that could be of some help in this area) ?

Any idea's on this could really be helpful / I only speek & understand in USA English [& unfortunately, I'm not bilingual] !

Thanks, Chris Canfield.

If I display (e.g.) Nepal in Google maps, initially the Nepali names appear beneath the Latin alphabet names, but only for a split second. They are then overwritten with unicode block icons. Some scripts work (e.g. Cyrillic, Chinese, Japanese, Armenian), but most south Asian scripts do this weird "works for a split second" rendering.

I'm running 128.8.0esr (64-bit) on Debian 12.

This problem does NOT occur in Safe Mode!

In Normal mode, I disabled all plugins and extensions, but the rendering still breaks.

Any ideas?

The same page renders properly in Chrome 134.0.6998.88
