Can't get rid of a tab

I am not sure I understand the your description of the problem.

Possibly the issue is the fact that you are always left with one tab and can not get rid of the last tab in a Firefox Window. That is now the expected behaviour. It is not possible to easily disable tabbed browsing.

As ever Firefox is highly customisable and addons have been developed to change this behaviour so that Firefox is more like older versions

If that is not your problem please try to give more details.

Why bother making an option to hide tabs when it does not work. So now we need a addon to do what the settings cant... Awesome!
