I am FURIOUS with Flash, and Firefox! Some of us actually need to WORK! That is, use our frigging computers without updating all the time! This has been a WAR for me for years, and has become completely unmanageable! ... I spend 20 hours a week messing with my computers, and it's reached a point that I cannot even USE THEM - AND I AM AN EXPERT!!!! I want ALL YOU CRAPPY VIRUS-LADEN Software OUT OF MY MACHINES!!!!!! Make a browser that BROWSES without updating 8 million plugins every time I open it!! This is what is putting MICRO$OFT OUT OF BUSINESS!!!!!!!!!!!! They refused to listen for years!!!

You might just need to uninstall them, and then in the future you might need to install one to make videos work. When the wizard comes up, don't click on automatic updates, use the one that will notify you before wanting to install, but if that's the only one you want to use, then click no updates, because that requires another long installation process to update.

Hi,

Your support tags say that you are using Windows 2000 and Firefox 12. Is this the machine that you are having trouble with?

Neither Windows 2000 nor Firefox 12 are supported so it is not surprising that you would have problems with them. See here for details: Firefox no longer works with Windows 2000

If you are having problems with Flash on a supported version of Firefox/Flash plugin then please see the tips here to help you troubleshoot them: Troubleshooting Flash.

If you don't like updates you may be interested in Firefox ESR which is only updated every 50+ weeks (other than security updates). See here for more details: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/

Thank you for the thoughtful edit and reply.. ;-) Windows 2000 is not the problem. I have MANY win2k machines, and the reason I keep those are my own technical/compatibility reasons. The point is, I have them setup to use versions of software, including Firefox (ver. 3.6, some ver 12) which 100% are the way I want them! It's not a debatable topic!! The problem is, Firefox keeps started pounding me every time I open these to "Update, Update" and it is a new issue I never had until a year ago. So, perhaps an update, or a plugin update, something has changed this. I do NOT want to UPDATE these machines EVER. I use them and need them to stay in "configuration control" (look that up some time..) and my only headache is Firefox, Adobe, Micro$oft and other corporate "developers" that THINK they are smarter than I am when it comes to managing my own machines! The message is, "knock it off." Remove the nag new screens and your spyware that peeks at my computer, and let me leave them as they were for more than a decade! Even the about:config changes I made to the plugin.xx setting now have been blocked from working right! I have my reasons, as MANY others on these forums have clearly asked the same, so LET US shut your naggin off without this rediculous argument! I have every version of every OS ever made from CPM, DOS to Windows 7, many Linux and now Android systems, along with MANY more Microcontrollers (think IC-Chips and assembly language!) hardware! I design and built the electronics, and develop software at a most advanced level! I don't need a lecture on "Upgrading" from college kids! Listen to what I (and others like me) are saying, not what you are think we want! That is why you are getting so much anger from many people on this topic!

Few of the contributors on this forum are Mozilla developers. The vast majority are volunteers who want to support Mozilla's mission.

If Firefox isn't working as it is designed to work then we can try to help. If you don't like the way that Firefox is designed to work then it is probably best to direct your feedback here: https://input.mozilla.org/en-GB/feedback

Please see this support request: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/954448

John99 suggests using Firefox ESR 10 which was supported beyond Firefox 12 and so should be more secure. Also he gives details on how to disable updates.

Cor-el links to an article providing instructions for running Firefox 13+ on Win 2k.

I hope that helps.
