I have removed mywebsearch from programme lists. all helpline instructions tell me to go to about:config and r click on keyword url, then press reset. When I right click I get nothing that remotely describes reset. I have been trying for days

There is an alternative method but I would advise against it unless you have no other option, it involves manually editing the file that stores the preferences.

  1. Follow the instructions in the profiles article to open your profile folder.
  2. Close Firefox
  3. Copy the file called prefs.js to another location (just creating a backup in case something goes wrong)
  4. Edit prefs.js with a text editor such as notepad
  5. Find the line in that file that contains keyword.URL and delete that line
  6. Save the file and restart Firefox to see if that fixes the problem.

To confirm that you are in the right place, do you get anything like the attached image when you right-click on the keyword.URL line in about:config?

Edit: appears to be a bug in the forum software, it is not letting me upload the image.

To confirm your actions:

  1. Type about:config into the location bar and press Enter
  2. If you get a warning message accept the warning message
  3. You should get a list of preferences appear
  4. In the filter box type keyword
  5. The preference at the top should be keyword.URL
  6. Right-click on that preference and the bottom entry on the right-click menu should be Reset
