incorrect error message for MP4 video

I am using Firefox Browser 92.0 (64 bit) for Ubuntu Canonical 1.0 I am running Ubuntu on ACER laptop uname -a Linux aneesa-Aspire-5733Z 5.11.0-34-generic #36~20.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 27 08:06:32 UTC 2021 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

When I try to open an MP4 video, it gives wrong message 'Video can't be played because the file is corrupt' whereas it plays absolutely fine on Google Chrome. Both screenshots attached.

ffmpeg is installed. I created my video using it.

For future reference for people who stumble upon this Firefox bug, the solution is to add "-pix_fmt yuv420p" in your ffmpeg command line.

Thank you. I read the entire link that you sent. I struggled trying many many different things that I read which were supposed to work but did not. I think that ffmpeg is under development and constantly changing. And that the documentation states aspirational goals.

So I decided to use OLD reliable software. My solution: (a) I copied my 1 PNG image and 1 MP3 music files to my old desktop running Windows XP (not connected to Internet) . (b) I used Windows MovieMaker software to create a 1-minute WMV video (c) I copied my 1 1-minute WMV video over to my Ubuntu desktop (d) I used https://www.freeconvert.com/ to convert my WMV video to MP4.

The resulting MP4 video works fine on Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari and Ubuntu Videos. You can view it at: https://maktab.net.au/Menu.mp4

Note that the Web Console shows an error message:

Decoder may not have the capability to handle the requested video format with YUV444 chroma subsampling. ZahidMenu.mp4
