Try to set another browser as the default browser in case some application on your computer tries to use the default browser for some reason.

You can create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

I don't have the problem with my Safari browser.

I created a new profile and the problem continues.

When I created the new profile it tried to force me to use Google as my search engine and I chose to use Yahoo instead. Apparently Firefox doesn't seem to like my choice. But I can go to Google.com and use the search engine with no problems.

I closed Firefox before starting to write this Reply on my Safari browser and Firefox just interrupted my writing and opened Firefox with the Google issue in a new Tab.

I really appreciate all the help that has been offered here. But this Google issue has taken over my computer. It is not a problem on Safari. I searched the Google website and found this problem to be existing prior to Mar 2019. Apparently Google said it had to do with their security. They apparently sent folks an email stating the problem would be fixed by the end of Mar 2019.

I am not a computer techie by any means so attempting to go through Verification is not an option for me. But again this is not a Firefox issue so I really do appreciate all the help.

I do not want to switch back to Safari by any means. I tried to use the Google Community Forum and I couldn't find where you post problems or questions. But I found where others, quite a few others, have the same problem. Links on the Google website to post wouldn't even work and came back as Errors.

Is there a way to completely strip Google from my iMac?

This problem totally has corrupted the operation of my computer. I can't find a way to disable Google. Every time I get into another App my screen jumps to Firefox and opens a new Tab with the Google error. If I close Firefox, it will open and add the Tab with the error. This happens every 5 minutes.

I will try the Apple Community to see if anyone can help there.

If I find a fix in layman terms, I will post it here.

Very kind of you to say that this is not a Firefox issue, but what puzzles me is the fact that you don't have this problem on Safari.

I'm hoping that someone else will come up with the perfect solution for you.

I just tried to go back 10 days in my backup and restart Firefox but I am having some issues there.

Is there a way to reinstall Firefox on my computer and to then add some of my data baggage back into the new install? I realize I will need to copy and paste the old data on my iMac before deleting everything. Is this possible? I do have Firefox installed and synced on my iPhone 6s+.

Hi Andy, do the unwanted pages appear in Safari if you make it your default browser? The purpose of that test is to see whether some other software on your system may be sending the link to your default browser.

P.S. Do not sign in on that page in any event, it looks like an attack.

The "new profile" test usually shows what a fresh install will look like, as long as you didn't use Sync or activate any extensions. Was this a clean test or is it possible that some data carried over:

Speaking of extensions, could you disable two of them for testing:

You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

• Command+Shift+a (Windows: Ctrl+Shift+a)
• "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
• type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions.

Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any extensions Firefox installs for built-in features are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Please disable these two:

• Fileconvertor addon
• Search Secure

Anything else suspicious or that you just do not remember installing or why? If in doubt, disable (or remove).

I actually disabled all of the extensions and the problem continued.

Out of frustration I reinstalled Firefox, Firefox Quantum. Of course everything is gone but at least I have my computer back.
