Where is the setting in Thunderbird 60.2.1 on Ubuntu 18.04 for automatically marking messages as read after x seconds?

I've looked under Preferences->Display->Advanced where it seems to reside on other operating systems, but doesn't show up under the Ubuntu version.

You should ask in an Ubuntu forum. Alternatively get rid of the Ubuntu provided version and use the vanilla Thunderbird from https://www.thunderbird.net/
