Firefox doesn't detect control characters

When attempting to direct output from a barcode scanner to an <input> field on a web page in Firefox (60.0.1), the control characters, such as the Group Separator (ASCII 0029) are ignored. Also, if I try to input the character manually via numeric keypad as Alt+0029, nothing happens. The control characters are essential for functioning of my web app. Is there any way to prevent Firefox from ignoring these characters? The same web app works normally in Chrome and Edge (control characters are detected and can be processed), so this must be an issue with the browser.
