When I open a tab that has a video some will run while others will not. I've tried refreshing Firefox and checking and activating add-ons but no luck. Any suggestions?

Are the not playing clips on the same websites? Right-click in the player area. What type of player is used? flash, HTML5 . . . . .

When I right click inside the player frame it does not tell me what type file it uses, e.g.: flash, HTML...

I think that the video files that won't run are html and adobe flash. I have the latest adobe flash on my computer but those files aparently won't run. I've installed/updated the file to run html video but, that hasn't helped those videos either.

That clip is being streamed. When I can't get a clip to play, I download it and watch it later.

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for a download manager.

I did that and the download manager doesn't work either.

Which one did you use?

The one I used was (Video) DownloadHelper {web link} The easy way to download and convert Web videos from hundreds of YouTube-like sites. This works also for audio and picture galleries.

I used the "DownloadHelper" that you provided the link for. It no workie either.

Does your Firefox say it can play HTML5 videos? YouTube has a test page which checks what Firefox says it does and does not support. Usually all but the last box are blue:

What does yours look like?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
