Sent and received email messages not all in date order and are all over the place, no matter what I do.
I have my In and Out box set in date order, but quite a few emails are scattered all over the place. Is there a way of correcting this and why does it happen?

It is already set to be in date order, but whereas, quite a few are, there are several all over the place.
Did you set the Unthreaded option?
Maybe you need to send us a screen shot of your Inbox. Obliterate subject lines and all addresses to preserve the privacy of you and your correspondents.

The problem with In Box seems to have been resolved although I don't know how, but still have a problem with Outgoing mail. See attachment.
Have you tried clicking on the date heading on the top of the mail list?
You've cropped off too much. We need to see the column headings and the two or three leftmost columns.
That's the "order received" column we see there to the right of the dates, isn't it? It appears to be sorting on that column.
HI Matt,
You will see that the top 6 are 4/11/15 then we have 2 of 30/9/15, then back to October, then November at bottom.

Roger
to reiterate. "Have you tried clicking on the date heading on the top of the mail list?"
Yes, but it made no difference.
That is interesting as clicking the heading should reverse the sort if your sorting by date or sort be date if you are not. That leads me to think your issue is an add-on or other problem.
Close Thunderbird, hold the shift key and restart Thunderbird.
Does it sort in Safe mode?
