Thunderbird keeps downloading the same message, but won't download any other messages. How do I fix this?

I have 72 emails to download, but it will only download the first message and then stops and says no more messages. Tried to download these messages at least a dozen times, but keep getting just the first one. I've run all my antivirus, spyware, and malware programs, but it didn't help. Suggestions?
