Am operating Firefox under Windows 7. My Firefox starting page is infiltrated by the link <www.mystartearch.com>. How can I set back Firefox to a blank new tab page when started? A new downlöad of Firefox did not solve the problem and there is no suspicious program in the list of programs which might be removed.

Hello,

Please see the guide (Edit: from cor-el's post):

If you have already removed the malware, you can just change your Firefox configuration:

  1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
  2. Click I'll be careful, I promise! to continue to the about:config page.
  3. Change the browser.newtab.url to another website (or about:blank) by double clicking on the row, or right clicking on it and selecting "Modify"

Yeah, those browser hijackers are a pain. You can easily get rid of them, though. Follow these steps in order:

1.Download Malwarebytes and run a scan. Malwarebytes is a really good anti-malware designed to detect and remove that kind of stuff. Go to Malwarebytes.org, download the installer, install the program, then start it and run a Full or Quick scan. Remove everything it detects. (Don't worry. The program is free.) Note: after you're done with the program, you may uninstall it.

2.Remove the add-on from Firefox. Most of these hijacking programs install add-ons in Firefox which change your homepage. Press ALT on your keyboard and click Tools>Add-ons at the top of Firefox's window. Look for suspicious or unfamiliar add-ons and click "Disable" or "Remove" next to them.

  • You can also try an Add-on called Extension Defender. It's a mini anti-virus for Firefox, and you can download it here.

Set your homepage back to default. The last step is to set the homepage to default. Press ALT on your keyboard, click Tools>Options, go to General tab, and under Startup, choose "Show a blank page" after When Firefox starts:.

Tell me if this helped. :)

I tried IOBIt, Enigma Software Automatic fixit, and Malwarebytes.org, all failed. However UnHackMe (http://www.greatis.com/unhackme/index.html) successfully removed <www.mystartearch.com> in a single step from all browsers Google, Firefox, Navigator, and Internet Explorer
