Hi

I am having problems opening a pdf file in Firefox. I have Firefox v4.0.1. When i attempt to open the file it gives a blank page. I can open the file successfully in Internet Explorer 8. I am using Windows XP Professional. I have had problems with Adobe Plugins in Firefox in the past so i use Foxit Reader to open PDFs. I can open the pdf file successfully in Foxit Reader. I have the Foxit Reader Plug-In for Mozilla 1.0.1.1117 enabled.

thanks

Ever since I upgraded my Windows 7 desktop to Firefox 5 it has been a nightmare! It hangs, freezes, is unresponsive more often than working. I have to us my laptop, still on FF4, to post this or risk being totally grey before I could finish posting. I see by the comments that I am not alone in having this problem, but do not see any offered solution. Do I have to revert to FF4 to use my desktop or is a solution forthcoming?

Although I can log into Hotmail using Internet Explorer, I can no longer sign in when I use Firefox.

A message box comes up saying "You have chosen to open default.aspx which is an aspx File from http://sn123w.mail.live.com"

It also prompts me with "What should Firefox do with this file?", making you have to choose between "open with/Browse" or "save file".

Afterwards, another message pops up which says:

C:\DOCUME~1\xxxx\LOCALS~1\Temp\d0Z4TvxE.aspx.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read. Try again later, or contact the server administrator.

I attempted a system restore several times but the problem still persists.

I tried to find information about it on the Internet, and I found this page which might explain the problem:

http://androidclone.com/ac_blog/?p=10

Is there any way to fix this situation aside from erasing my Hotmail account? I asked the help forum on MSN and they told me to contact the Firefox forum about this problem instead.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ever since I upgraded to Firefox 4.01, it is like constantly crashing. Since upgrading in the last week, I have 35+ crash reports in about:crashes and none of them show crash signature, as shown on the web page in the crash id section when filling out this report.

I've tried to find a volunteer online during live chat this week but seems no one is there during the times listed. Tried Monday, Tues and yep, today - nada! :(

I've checked the various articles about Firefox 4 and the crashes. I have verified my graphics driver (Intel G33/G31 Express Chipset Family) is up to date. And have very minimal add-ons (as in almost none!) to the best of my knowledge.

Here are a sample of some of the crash reports to see/find the issue : (will list 3 of the 35+ for a sample)

I visit a few known intranet locations that do not have proper certificates installed; therefore, I receive the "This Connection is Untrusted" notice.

In 3.x versions of Firefox, I could click the "Add Exception" button to add an exception and continue to the site.

In 4.x versions of Firefox, the "Add Exception" button simply doesn't work. There is no way to add an exception from the "This Connection is Untrusted" screen.

I can no longer save tabs when I go to exit firefox. For some reason I can't restore previous session from the history menu and there is no restore session button on the default home page. I've also gone to about:config and made sure that 'browser.tabs.warnOnClose', 'browser.warnOnQuit', and 'browser.warnOnRestart' were set to true but nothing is working. I still only get the warning that I'm about to close tabs, but not the option to save them or not.

And I don't want to change the default settings to show previous tabs and windows on start up because I like firefox starting up on the default page, unless I needed to save tabs. Anyways, when I tried that option last it didn't seem to work.

I'm using firefox 4 on a macbook.

I have just installed the new FF (which actally looks a lot like Explorere). I used to be able to type a word into the address bar eg: Facebook, and I would either be redirected immediately to Facebook otherwise FF would perform a google search. Has this feature been eliminated or is there a setting that can do this.

BTW, I do not like the new FF. The previous version was much more user friendly and visually pleasing.

This is quite frustrating. Ever since the release of FF6 the performance of Firefox with Flash related content literally sucks! The plugin container is ALWAYS crashing consistently.

It seems that in Mozilla race to compete with Google Chrome in their rapid releases has resulted in rapid blunders. If better testing was in place this crap would not be happening. Mozilla needs to slow their roll in all honesty of people that have been long time Firefox users are going to move to Google Chrome since it is not plagued with issues that are getting all kinds of loyal Firefox fans pissed off over something so simple as flash.

I have had more problems with crashing since Firefox 5 has come out. Obviously the proper testing has not been done by Mozilla. In the 3. series i maybe crashed once a year, now is daily! WAKE UP MOZILLA!

Before I go any further i have read numerous post in here with people have the same problem. I have also done some testing on my own from what Mozilla suggests, in which NONE of their solutions corrects this issue. My solution however, which is not a solution but more a work a round solves totally any plugin-container.exe crashing. It was simply to roll back to Firefox 4.01. I updated to the newest flash player via their site. I have been crash free for days now! THIS IS NOT AN ADOBE FLASH ISSUE. If it were then i would have crashed in 4.01 as well. For those concerned with the update nag, simply go to options->advanced-> and the tick boxes. that will prevent the nag

I thought that i could re-install Firefox 7 and simply replace the plugin-container.exe from 4.01, however that did not work. It resulted in a complete lock up of Firefox 7.01, and was honestly hoping that it would be that straight forward.

I read some peoples success with the 8b3. So, I tried that, and didn't solve my problem. I crashed within 24 hours again on flash related content. ( the crash ids are for the 8b3 i listed ).

Maybe someone needs to take the plugin container, and associated components in 4.01 and incorporate it in a new release, or revert back to that engine all together so that we can have a nice web experience without all the crashes.

You can get Firefox 4.01 here: ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/4.0.1/

edit: replaced random unofficial download site link.

Answer: I figured it out.

History lesson first. Ever since the 4.0.1 update, Firefox 4 has been crashing A LOT. It's gotten so bad that FF4.0.1 will eat memory with no end in sight and eventually Windows (Win 7 64-bit) forcefully close the program due to an out of memory error.

I have 8 GB of RAM installed. And, it would crash once it exceeds 1.5 GB of RAM used by Firefox 4. I've seen Firefox 4 go up to 1.85 GB of RAM in Task Manager. This is with 20 tabs open.

With the add-on Leak-Monitor, I've narrowed down the issue. Having only Leak-Monitor as the extension installed, all pop-ups point to how poorly Firefox 4 handles Javascript!

MSNBC Leak Monitor issue: Leak Monitor log from MSNBC.com

I've gotten more pop-ups from even support.mozilla.com because of the Javascript on this website.

Firefox 4.0.1 is leaking memory from every Javascript on every website I load. It's leaking memory as we speak with only this page loaded (one tab).

FIX IT! Firefox 4 is poorly handling Javascript, especially when multiple tabs are opened.
