I deleted it from my downloads and the recycle bin. Did not run the file. Am I okay?

Phillip & John99, Thanks for the quick replies. No, I haven't had any issue's with Firefox, before or after. This just occurred today (12/9/13). Just thought it was a bit weird to be notified that way. Been using Firefox for several years and it was just out of place. Thanks and I do have most that you mentioned in place plus EMET to keep everything good, I hope. All I did was start deleting it from my computer, nothing else. Thanks again

Well that didn't work. The post above is mine. I had a pop up tab and statement about the out of date Firefox. It downloads an installer and wants you to run it. I deleted it from my downloads and also the recycle bin. Am I good with this or should I do a scan anyway. Safest route, I suppose.

yes, if you have not executed the downloaded stuff you should be alright, but please run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner to make sure that malware isn't already present in other places of your system as well and triggering those false update notifications.

You should be ok.

Although we do not know exactly what you did, and you could have picked up malware somehow. If in any doubt try scanning with multiple and up to date tools. Follow the following suggestions.

Are you noticing any major problems or very strange behavior of Firefox?

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
