every time I open a web page with Firefox I am either redirected to rvzr-a.akamaihd.net or am bombarded with ads that wants me to download an updated media player. I have worked with Avast support and even after de-installing and re-installing Firefox and rebooting with boot time scan and using CCclener and Malwarebytes to get rid of malware as well as removing lines of code from windows system32>drivers>>etx>host, the virus comes back. The only way to use Firefox is to restart Firefox in SAFE MODE.

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Hi Mike...which is the "step two" that worked for you?

UPDATE -- i tried TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility and it appears that did the trick. What a relief!
