It depends. Websites generally look their best when you let them specify their own font sizes, rather than setting them yourself or requiring a minimum.
You can use Firefox's Zoom feature to scale up sites that are too small while preserving their layout. The above-referenced article (Font size and zoom - increase the size of web pages) has the steps.
If you need to zoom every site, it can become tedious. There are a couple of add-ons that let you set a global zoom level, and then you only need to tweak the few sites for which the global level doesn't work.
Any luck?
I have followed the directions and they were successful, until I went to ebay.com
no matter what I select, their font is too small for me to read well. is there a special way to out-maneuver ebay?
can somebody help?
thanks
Hi kinseysue, apologies for the delayed response, I was traveling. Zoom should work on all sites, but you might need to reset the starting point using Ctrl+0 (that's a zero).
You can use an extension to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages.
- Default FullZoom Level: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/
I have downloaded this addon but cannot see any button or icon or the like for it. However the size of the text has increased.

You can find toolbar icons in the toolbar palette and drag them on a toolbar.
- Firefox menu button > Options > Toolbar Layout
- View > Toolbars > Customize (press F10 to display the menu bar)
- Right-click empty toolbar area > Customize

Thank you for answering. I cannot find the firefox menu button, toobar layout nor the toolbar palette. Also when I press F10 nothing happens.
In the View menu I see Toolbars and Customize. There I did Add new toolbar. Now I see one for Zoom Controls. Perhaps that is the one I should add?
Hi EdReff, regarding the Firefox button, you can switch between the classic full width menu bar and the compact menus accessed through the orange Firefox button by turning the Menu Bar on and off. Since you found the View menu, you're on the right track.
Sometimes the function of buttons in the Customize dialog is not obvious. The best thing to do in that case is to just try dragging it to a bar and see whether you find it useful.
