Are you using Firefox 17.0 or 17.0.1? There was a problem with 17.0 with cookie preferences. Version 17.0.1 is supposed to have fixed that. I ended up deleting my preferences.sqlite file in my profile and redoing it.
It is possible that your firewall is blocking cookies if it happens in other browsers as well.
