The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

No it didn't help. I believe I already noted that, but if I didn't then I will now because earlier I reset firefox.

{ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384} is the GUID for the Firefox program, not the GUID for an extension.

Sorry, there is no GUID registry where the name of an extension can be used to find out the GUID that extension uses.

If you did reset Firefox that extension should be gone - period; unless the program that installed it the first place is still on your PC and it installed that extension all over again.

The program's gone. I made sure of it. However the extension is still there. I believe there have been similar reports of this extension for "earlier versions" I guess. Those people couldn't get rid of the extension conventionally. They had to go into the personal folder to get rid of it. I however am having the problem of being unable to find the required file to delete. And I know that I did the reset for firefox after I uninstalled mediafinder (the program that people reported apparently comes with General Crawler) so I'm stuck and all the things I can find on the personal folder doesn't load the pic/side image correctly except for a few things so I don't know what to do. To add, most of what I found in the extensions part didn't fit the description of what people have said is there nor could I find it it anywhere else on the folder. It's like I'm basically searching for someting that doesn't exist since the said items didn't pop up when searching in te search on the left. It's just there.

Ok, I had this problem too and I searched for a solution. I found it and it seems to work. I don't know if it will come back, but it removed it for the time being.

First off, you'll probably want to get your folders to show hidden files. If you're not sure how to do this, there's a link detailing it for Windows 7 and Vista: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/show-hidden-files-and-folders-in-windows-vista/ If it's not Vista or 7, then try this:

1. Open Folder Options in Control Panel. • Click Start, and then click Control Panel. • Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options.

2. On the View tab, under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.

After you get that done, go to: Users/[my user name]/appdata/roaming/mozilla/extensions You'll want to look through all the ones you have there until you find a folder saying "gencrawler@some.com". That's the folder you'll want to delete.

That should take care of it. I don't know if it will get rid of it for good, but like I said, it gets rid of it for the time being.

Found it in the extensions part of mozilla on my folders. Now it's thankfully (and hopefully) completely gone.

It would be nice if you posted the GUID of the General Crawler 2 extension to help other Firefox users in the future who might need help removing it.

Hmm, how so? I would do it if I knew all the terms that you guys have been talking about. But I digress since I doubt that this might help others. I mean, others might get confused as well, but I doubt they will always find it the way I found it. (It literally was just lying there in a totally separate extensions folder that wasn't even connected to the hidden folder, but the only way I found it was by hitting the folders thing in the top after pulling up the hidden folder and I saw this whole entirely separate extensions folder and that's where it was, lying right there in plain sight without extra things needed to be done like it was taunting me for my stupidity.)
