firefox v.8 recently installed it hangs,freezes,and on several occasions receive error msg

Error MSG high memory usage restart FF and now in my options/privacy settings/history, cannot set to custom settings when I do this and try to sign into a site it keeps saying you must enable cookies. I have done this and also added the site to the exceptions list in FF options. I have followed all the steps such as cleaning cache,cookies etc... I can't sign into sites now. This version of FF has been the only one I have had issues with. I have always used FF and love it but I've been in a state of frustration since FF8. HELP PLEASE!
