I had to disable McAfee Site Advisor because if enabled I could not use the back and forth arrows on the browser in some instances. In trying to track this problem down I discovered there is a continuous problem reported in Event Viewer with this information: The entry <C:\USERS\CINDY\APPDATA\LOCAL\MOZILLA\FIREFOX\PROFILES\PV0GC0WS.DEFAULT\CACHE\_CACHE_003_> in the hash map cannot be updated.

Context: Application, SystemIndex Catalog

Details: A device attached to the system is not functioning. (0x8007001f)

Can anyone please help with this?

The error could be something trivial, it will depend really on what problems you are having, and I note you have made a few other posts.

A basic principle of troubleshooting is to reduce as many unknown interactions as possible, so in the case of Firefox disabling or removing as many extras as possible.

If you are determined to check what is in the firefox caches then use about.cache simply type it into the location bar and hit return, it is relatively user friendly and shows masses of info about what is cached, there is also an add-on cacheviewer Even without the add-on you may be able to figure out what the item is, and whether or not it is updating.

I do not even use Vista, but presumably an event log entry may not necessarily relate directly to Firefox use.

"in the hash map cannot be updated.

Context: Application, SystemIndex Catalog "

I would hazard a guess that the above message may relate to disk indexing; if so it will possibly have nil impact upon Firefox operation.

I do recall problems being mentioned on this forum about Site Advisor and Firefox, and note some versions are on the blocklist for Firefox 4. If you have problems with SiteAdvisor it would be worth ensuring you have the very latest compatible release of Site Advisor.

It's nice to finally get a reply. I haven't gone with Firefox 4 yet. I have McAfee 3.3.1 so from what I read that should be compatible. I still have it disabled. Seems funny that it's worked all this time and now it messes Firefox up.

I've had a lot of little glitches with Firefox recently and for all the posts I've made, this is the first answer.

Two days ago I suddenly had a problem with the site WebMD, which I use all the time, not being able to play videos, even tho videos would play on YouTube. When I'd disable AdBlocker Plus everything was fine. I Googled and read and tried some things which didn't seem to be working so I assumed I wasn't performing the steps correctly. Suddenly it just started working again.

For a long time I could not reach my Personas by going through Tools on the menu bar. I wrote and asked about it but no answer. Now it's finally working again.

This is the longest I have gone without all the icons in my tool bar disappearing. I think it's been at least 10 days since I've had to replace them all.

I have bookmarked the pages you gave me for troubleshooting so I can refer to them. If there were a couple things to try I would do so, but I'm not a computer tech and I'm not up to trying to figure out all the various fixes mentioned. Thank you for your response.

Sorry if some of your questions have gone un-answered, nearly everyone answering these questions is a volunteer, and unfortunately some questions do get overlooked. One of your questions about personas did get answered, even if it was that you would do better [ /questions/782909] asking on another forum.

My own important suggestions are really nothing more than suggesting that you reverse (even just temporarily) some of the changes you have made to the Firefox installation, in order to make any testing or troubleshooting easier.

You probably need not be too concerned with what the Event Viewer says, or the Cache values, but those are subjects you raised questions about.

I don't have the problem of topic, BUT I do have a problem with a Mozilla update that no one seems to know about or is currently working on. You need these 2 programs to make it keep happening: Firefox 13.0.1a and Flashplayer 11x32mssd_aih.exe.

You say that's the latest version? So It IS! Someone just didn't try to go 'Full Screen' often enough & seen HOW FAST it crashes. I'll say you won't go full screen more than twice--IF that!
