I just installed Linus Freespire on a PC that Windows XP had crashed on, and happy to have it take on a new life. When I tried to browse myspace.com, I was forced to upgrade to Firefox 3.6 and downloaded it. It said it went to the desktop, but don't see it there. Instead I get a KArchiver window with Firefox-3.6.6.tar-1 in it. I have tried screwing around with it and its "wizard" until I am about ready to trash the whole thing. Can someone tell me what i need to do to upgrade Firefox 2.0.0.6 to Firefox 3.6.6 besides getting another degree? It would be nice if there where some hints.

Not sure how often

== every time I try to access myspace.com

Is that Linux distro still even being developed? I thought it died like three years ago. The homepage - http://www.freespire.org/index.php - talks about Freespire 2.0 being based on Ubuntu 7.04, which is a version of Ubuntu that was released in April, 2007. The support forums - http://forum.freespire.org/ - appear to almost dead, most "communities" don't appear to have recent activity.

Linus Freespire probably doesn't support the Firefox 3.0+ versions. See the System Requirements for Firefox 3.6. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/system-requirements.html I had to install a later GTK package for Xandros Linux OS that came with my EeePC in 2008, when I wanted to install Firefox 3.0 . I later changed to Ubuntu on that netbook.

IMO, you're probably better off switching to a more modern version of Linux that than one, like one of the variants of Ubuntu. It's actively developed, has a much larger user base, and a more active support forum with more knowledgeable users that most other Linux distros. http://www.ubuntu.com/ http://ubuntuforums.org/
