Where did the Bookmarks Icon go from the taskbar? It was soooo convenient and now I have to choose from the open application menu ?

You may find it on the Customise page. Right-click a toolbar or the 3 bar menu and select Customise Toolbar. If the icon is there, drag it to toolbar. If it isn't there, try the button in the right bottom corner of that page Restore Defaults.
