I wanted to get an couple new addons to my firefox browser. But whenever I try to get one i get the message 'Installation aborted because the add-on appears to be corrupt' whether I save the file and install it in windows, or trey to install at the firefox addons page. I have done multiple re-installs of the latest browser, cleaned every file out of the system, even joined this community in case I have to get some kind of membership to get addons.

I am out of ideas to solve the problem, and I cannot find anywhere on the internet where the 'Installation aborted because the add-on appears to be corrupt'. problem I have is solved. Please help.

Is this about an extension you download from the Add-ons website or download from a third-party website ?

It is possible that (anti-virus) security software is causing the problem. Try to disable security software temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

cor-el,

Still use WP?

I only use addons.mozilla.org/firefox for addons.

co-rel,

Turning off anti-virus software did not help. I still got the same message. Any other suggestions?

Try to download the XPI file and un-zip it. Does 7-zip show any folder structure without the error message?

Tried that and it did not work. Will try again.

Ty,

Tried again.

I can unzip files, but I cannot copy them over to the Firefox directory, getting access denied messages mostly. I'm totally confused at this point.

Did you download the XPI file by right-clicking the "Add to Firefox" button on an extension's page ?

Extensions have a META-INF folder that is used to sign the extension. Any modification to the file like some AV software might do when it inspects the files for viruses invalidates the signing and will cause this error message.

You can possibly try to install the extension as a temporary extension via the about:debugging page to see if that works (i.e. it is only a problem with the signing).

cor-el,

I need some information about 'right-clicking the "Add to Firefox" button on an extension's page.' Whenever I try to right click on an install button either on the addon site or the addon's home page, the only thing I see close to it is "open link in new tab" and when I do I get the same error message.

As to extension workshop, I got an error statement saying:

A warning message is displayed at the top of the This Firefox tab if service workers are incompatible with the current browser configuration, and therefore cannot be used or debugged. ../../_images/worker_warning.png

Service workers can be unavailable if the dom.serviceWorkers.enable preference is set to false in about:config.

I changed the preference to 'enable', ands still get the error message, so I can't use that idea.

Obviously I'm missing something here, and I do not know what it is. I'm using ESET AV software, and I've never run into this problem before. If you have any other ideas let me know, because I stumped at this point.

Thanks again,

jkumpire

I've seen this on three different extensions tested today. Three different sources, but all found via the Firefox add-ons list. Included Google Translate. I successfully installed one of them on Chrome.

Even the attempt to download an extension, intending to install it afterwards, fails with the same error about being corrupt.

I believe we are experiencing a fault created by the latest version of Firefox. Mine is:

101.0.1 Firefox Release June 9, 2022

b.

You need to go to This Firefox to find the button to install a Temporary Extension.

Did it, rec'd the following message:

There was an error during the temporary add-on installation. Error details

Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIZipReader.open]

Will try another addon

Thank for your help, but I cannot fix this problem, and after days of troubleshooting I'm looking for a new browser. I've used Firefox for years, but it looks like the organization has screwed up the last couple of updates and doesn't really care about solutions. Why even have addons or themes if you can't access them?

I also have a problem re-installing an add-on that I noticed today had a strange looking password suddenly appear. I deleted the add-on and went to re-install it to get the message which is the subject of this discussion. Owing to the nature of the add-on I am now unable to get my browser to function as it should. Where can we get direct 1-2-1 support from Firefox please?

Thanks for that - I seem to remember ESET having a similar problem a couple or three years ago but I'd forgotten all about it.
