What were you doing at the time? surfing, watching a clip, reading something . . . .

A problem we have been seeing a lot of late is;

You can check for issues caused by a corrupted or incomplete Visual C++ installation that is missing runtime components (Redistributable Packages) required by Firefox, especially VCRUNTIME140_1.dll.

Install both 32-bit and 64-bit "Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019" downloads, (x86: vc_redist.x86.exe and x64: vc_redist.x64.exe) from https://support.microsoft.com/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads

You may not need the latter (32-bit version) if you use 64-bit Firefox. You may have to reboot the computer. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ In another thread, a user reported that a recent update of Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit (version 415) may be causing symptoms similar to the VC Runtime problem. If you have MBAE, it should have a setting to exempt Firefox. You could test whether that makes any difference.

It's usually when editing Google Sheets, which is mostly what I do. But also happens with other web forms/fields, response boxes.

I use 64-bit Firefox, so I installed the x64 Visual Studio package. It didn't help.

I tried using another browser for a bit and it also kept crashing pages. And now I notice one of the PC games I play will randomly crash. So I think it's safe to say it's not a Firefox issue.

I ran SCR and it found and corrected some corrupted files, but this didn't solve my issue.

I have now tried running Windows in Safe Mode with Networking and it's working great–no browser crashing. So it must be a process/software/driver that isn't allowed to run in Safe Mode.

Thanks for your help thus far!

When a computer is started in Safe Mode, only system programs are running.

As a test, disable your protection programs.

more options

I don't have any protection programs, just the default Microsoft Defender.

more options

Did you test by disabling it?

more options

Disabling Microsoft Defender? No, I'll try to figure out how to do that.

more options

I disabled real-time protection, cloud-delivered protection, automatic sample submission, and tamper protection. I'm still getting crashes.

I called for more help.

Firefox Troubleshoot mode didn't help.

Windows Safe Mode with Networking works, as I mentioned earlier. I also get tab crashes on another browser (Edge), as I mentioned earlier as well.

So I don't think it's a Firefox issue.
