I recently signed up for the Mozilla VPN after having used two other services over the past two years, services that were unsatisfactory. The same problem has arisen with the Mozilla VPN as arose with my two previous services, i.e., I'm told I'm in one country, but am actually in another country altogether.

Yesterday, I chose Australia and it worked a treat.

Today, I chose Austria (Vienna) and ended up somewhere in Hungary. The login instructions for Google were not in English nor in German. They were in Hungarian. I'm not keen on Hungary, not merely because of the nation's cynically & unsuccessfully masked repressive authoritarianism, but also because of the government's freewheeling attitude to Eastern European hackers. If I choose a Mozilla VPN in Austria, I should be linked to an Austrian server in Austria, NOT to a Hungarian server.

If I can't rely on Mozilla to do what they accept money to do, what are my options? Can ANY VPN service be trusted to provide what it claims it can provide?

I switched to Belgium (Brussels) and landed in Luxembourg. I don't pay money to be suckered into dangerous or unwanted territory—not that there's anything untrustworthy about Luxembourg, but IT'S NOT what I chose.

Has anyone else reading this complaint experienced similar problems with their Mozilla VPN? Can this be overcome or am I and everyone who seeks a safe and secure VPN service condemned to dealing with a misrepresented service?

Hi there, Thank you so much for reaching out, I am sorry to hear about this issue you are experiencing!

You should definitely be able to see the same location that you chose from the server. Some websites may be showing your location based on your browsers historical data or GPS data, instead of the internet connection IP. Unfortunately Mozilla VPN can’t control these permissions in third-party apps. You could go into your device settings and withdraw GPS/Location permission from those applications to help resolve this. I also suggest that you clear cookies and cache and delete your browser history just to be safe!

Try signing out of the Mozilla VPN (you can do this by going to the gear icon on the top right of the application, then scrolling down to "Sign out"), uninstalling it, re-downloading it, and reinstalling it. The sign out is an important part of the process due to deleting some files that otherwise don't get purged. This usually resolves these kinds of issues.

If this does not help you, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly! We might need additional information from you like what device and operating system you are currently using. Open Mozilla VPN and click the Settings vpn settings icon icon. Click Get Help. Click Contact us. A tab will open with a contact form. You might need to log in to Firefox Accounts first.

Regards, Mags
