hello dennis, you did a great job discovering these errors for us.

It seems to me that the best solution would be to execute a format and reinstallation of the operating system.

However, is your machine a name brand model, like HP, Dell, etc.  ?

What occurs is that they usually have a factory restore feature for each of their machines.

They also sometimes have their own diagnostic apps that you can download to scan their machines. Also, your machine may be under warranty and the issue is mechanical and not software related.

Let us know what you will do "before you do anything". we can guide you so that you do not create a disaster and end up throwing your machine at the wall out of frustration.  :-)

Backup anything you don't want to lose. Also, if asked, choose to save your files. Firefox and its profiles will be lost, so backup the profiles.

OK, I can roll back the device to the factory settings, but here's the question, how do I make a backup copy of the files, can I transfer them somewhere in obloko, or should I buy another (data carrier), because I have one disk in the computer. I just have a lot of applications and files that I would not like to lose.

If you are going to execute the nuclear option, ie format and clean installation, then you can save files to a usb thumb drive, or your cell phone "if" it has a micro data drive or upload them to a google drive account or write them to a dvd as your computer should have a read writable cd/dvd drive.

Also, i would not back up the entire FireFox profile. It is likely corrupted. So trying to restore it on a clean system would not be a good idea.

Instead export your bookmarks via Menu > Bookmarks > ShowAll > export to html file. Then save that html to a location off the computer.

Also, you can export passwords to a text file, via the passwords login section. Paste and go to the following url and look for the 3 dots for the option. Then save that file somewhere. I have not used this feature. But i think will have to manually re-enter the logins&pw manually. This is a small price to pay.

The above is for your FireFox data. But take the same steps for you other personal files, like pics and documents. And if you have an email program installed, get those passwords too.

On a final note, if you proceed with a factory restore "do not install any applications". Your o.s. will then begin downloading and installing many updates. It will take a number of days to download and install. In the interim, use the microsoft browser to play on the internet while your computer is 100% functional.

Once its functional, install your FireFox and Email programs. But do not install any anti-malware software until your computer is at 110% functional with an O.S., FF and Email.

Here you can create a new profile and test whether it is more stable. To get the "new install" experience, don't connect the new profile to your Firefox Account at first, test it through a few sessions, so you can allow Firefox time to discover your system features and adapt its settings. Is it stable?

I don't remember getting a report back on whether there was any improvement.

Indeed, testing is always a good idea. But unless i have mis understood the symptoms Dennis has been providing us, it is my opinion that the o.s. is corrupted. So there is no assurance that testing the profile provides any value at this time.

And if by chance there is malware on the system, we should not take the chance of possibly transferring it over to the new o.s. via a backup'd profile from the old o.s. Or who knows? Maybe there is a hardware issue that is causing his o.s. to be unstable.

We can all only hope that Dennis gets a fresh new clean start with the factory restore.
