The icon information is not stored within the places.sqlite file. They are stored in a separate database file called favicons.sqlite.

If you still have access to the old profile folder, you can try copying that file over when Firefox is closed.

Otherwise, I often recommend using the Checkmarks add-on. It has a few features, but the one that applies in this situation is it's ability to load the favicons for you. It will load each bookmark for you in a new tab and then close the tab when it's done.

It's the same as if you had opened each bookmark, but it does it automatically so you won't rip your hair out after having to open 25,000 bookmark manually. I'd recommend just starting the process and letting it run overnight.

Do you know any way to give feedback on specific support articles? I think that article should put the names of the files in bold, better still, the article should be in the form of a table, as that would make it less likely you'd miss any files.

Yeah, I can see how it would be missed. Unfortunately, all of the file names in the documents are supposed to be italics, but they don't really stand out that much that way. I can point that out to the knowledge base team, but I'm not sure if it will change anything.

1. All the filenames should be in bold. 2. They should be summarized at the end in a list 3. OR the whole thing should be in a table, with the filenames on the left, and explanation on the right. That would be the most helpful.

The suggestion I put forward to the knowledge base team is that the section about files be reformatted to look like the list of files that's included in the Recovering important data from an old profile document. The file names are much more visible on that page.

The other suggestion that I made was to display file names as monospace letters, so that they would appear like favicons.sqlite instead of favicons.sqlite, which is more visible. Making them bold is also a good alternative.

Since the style how files are shown in all the documentation should stay the same, I think it's far more likely that I will be able to get my first suggestion introduced before the second one, since the second one would require a change to how all of the documents are written.

In an ideal world, all the user files would be together in their own special sub-folder called 'User settings', while each file would be named descriptively: Places would be called bookmarks, favicons would be bookmarks_icons, cert9 would be security_certificates, and so on. But that's probably asking too much! :-)
