I have been using MOZILLA / Netscape/ Firefox Since 1996/7. Periodically I have a problem . LIKE RIGHT NOW I have to use Chrome to contact you because your latest version is seriously corrupted and under attack from ; "attachappstreams.best You already know that because you've got a web page warning us of it. But you don't have a way to fix it. No matter how many times I delete it. Reboot my Windows 7 desktop. Or open and close the latest version of Firefox. That damn phony update keeps popping up with bells and blue screens and I can't use your browser until YOU GUYS figure out how you screwed up and gave them access. ADD ons and Ad blockers are equally dangerous and I limit them to only 2 for the past 5 years. Get a handle on the is , guys/gals . Or sadly, because I really don't like Chrome. But what choice do I have. FIX IT. IT Quickly. Or you're going to lose serious market share. Just like you did to Internet Explorer 20 years ago.

Step 1:

You may have ad/mal-ware. Further information can be found in this article;
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently.
If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

Step 2:

If you want to reinstall Firefox, follow the instructions below.
If you just want to remove it, disregard the install instructions.

Let’s do a full clean re-install;

Note: Firefox comes in three or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only>
Firefox itself: (Programs Folder)
And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user profiles would not be affected.

Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}

Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files
C:\Program Files (x86) Note: Check Both Folders

Mac: Open the "Applications" folder.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Linux: Check your user manual.
If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop

Look for, and remove any Mozilla or Firefox program folders.
Do not remove the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.

Do Not remove any profile folders.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner
if you have one. Then run the installer.

If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

Issues like this are not an issue with the Firefox browser itself, it's an issue with your computer. It's nothing something that the Firefox developers need to (or even can) fix on their end. You likely have malware installed on your computer.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Hope this helps.

Of course it's Firefox's problem WESLEY. I can't cut and paste the image that Firefox posted that is the identical replica of that update message I got that started the problem But I bookmarked it. Sure it's coming from outside.

Maybe it's 400lb.  Estonian

lying on his bed playing hacking and phishing games. Obviously Firefox is well aware of it.

This is your answer to me WESLEY?I

Yeah, beat up on the support contributors here! Sure method of not getting help and maybe being banned from posting here. Plus you are using Win7 which is EOL (End Of Life), that is no longer support by Microsoft and cut off from recent security fixes.

We have no problem with trying to help you with Win7 issues, but your attitude is just plain poor.
Wesley tried to help you and you insulted him by not respecting the help that he provided.

Bottom line is that we can't help with fixing "dumb"!

OK. I requested you not respond. To just let it go. You didn't listen. So I don't know who you are. But you . are going to get my response. I can't recall ever posting a question on this site. Once in a while I'll have a browser problem and go search in the help and response section. This problem caught me off guard. It was early this morning, I posted the question before I had Googled the problem. Because it came with pop up screens and noisy bells . And I every time I closed and reopened the browser to the Daily Beast site . It would occur. I was reading a post about John Travolta's wife death and deep connection to Scientology. So I thought maybe Scientologists had hacked into the Daily Beast post and were maybe, trying to corrupt and scare people away from reading it. But after I closed Firefox and opened Chrome. I Googled the problem and Firefox had put up an exact replica of the the pop up box that was trying to force me to update my Firefox Browser to some strange format. I had just updated the Firefox browser last night. So I could see I already the latest version. Firefox was trying to suggest I find an Addon , AdBlocker that might help to prevent the pop up window. We'll as I just said I had already posed the problem before I saw Firefox's explanation. The pop window occurred about 8 times. And you read my response, So you already know that I said I shut Firefox down for a few hours. And didn't over react. And so far, it's cleared the problem on it's own. But the 3 optional solutions offered to me , were nuts. Delete Browser. Download from a different source. Clean out your registry. It's all my fault and Windows 7 fault. Those somewhat over the top response and suggested options .

were the reason why I responded the way I did.

Those suggestions and especially the nasty dismissive response from Wesley, is what set me off. Now your up , with a more threats. Get over yourselves. Sometimes you're not going to have the right solution. And can confuse and scare users into taking steps that will only result in getting the user into further deep water , they can't get out of. NOW I'm asking you to do the same thing . LET IT GO

You messaged me almost before I finished posting the above response. So I will respond to you. Because in self quarantine. What else do I have to do. When I encountered the problem I posted after the pop up occurred for the 8th time. I Googled the problem, and Firefox offered the first web page solution. Below is how the page was listed in Google and it showed an exact replica of the pop up window I had been subjected to. I looked at their solutions. I don't like Addons and limit them to no more than a couple since Firefox came online after Netscape. I just don't trust them. So that's why I decided to just close Firefox for the next few hours and went and watched tv. and used my ipad to access the internet for 5 hours. I actually left Firefox open after I didn't experience the problem for about an hour. And it's8 hours later and Firefox is behaving itself. So, I'm making the same request to you. LET IT GO. Stop responding. This is getting more like Road Rage, I get mad. then you get madder, and then I respond . And then you double down. I'm saying, I"m not asking. JUST STOP. Don't send me an email. And I promise I will just close this window after I send this and return to my life. OK????? I

I found a fake Firefox update

You already know that because you've got a web page warning us of it.

Which warning page is it -- is it the red malware/phishing protection page? How does built-in Phishing and Malware Protection work?

But you don't have a way to fix it. No matter how many times I delete it.

What are you deleting?

ADD ons and Ad blockers are equally dangerous and I limit them to only 2 for the past 5 years.

What extensions do you have installed at the moment?

These are some techniques for closing scam pages without having to take drastic measures.

The "key" (ha ha) is the keyboard shortcut for closing the current tab, which is Ctrl+w (or on Mac, Cmd+w). Try it after each action to see whether it is available yet.

(1) Large alert dialog (lots of text)

If you cancel this dialog, it may reappear. After two or three appearances, Firefox should add a checkbox at the bottom of the dialog to stop the site from showing more alerts. Check that box and click OK to block further dialogs.

(2) Authentication dialog (asks for username and password)

If you cancel this dialog, the page may reload and immediately show it again. Pressing the Esc key numerous times in a row can cancel the reload as well as the dialog.

(3) Reacting to mouse movement

Some pages have a script that detects when you are moving the mouse pointer up toward the tab bar and takes action to show another dialog, or moves to full screen view to hide the toolbar area. On these pages, the keyboard shortcut is essential.

Hopefully this will let you close problem pages without having to "kill" Firefox in the Windows Task Manager. (I don't recommend using that method because the tab will come back during automatic crash recovery anyway.)

We'll see. I didn't do anything other than just open Firefox about two hours after I had that box pop up. And when I didn't see it re-occur. I just left Firefox alone for 7 hours and now its 11 hours since I first encountered the issue. And it hasn't popped up again. Some TIMES, Time is what best solves a problem. 50% of the time when I try to take proactive or aggressive action to computer problem I cause new and compounding problems. Sort of like Cable tv boxes. We'll see what happens tmw. After my Windows desktop goes to sleep for another 10 hours
