The new design of Reader View has two problems:

  1. Given that this feature is particularly important for those with eyesight problems or other disabilities, it seems like a bad move to have made the buttons smaller.
  1. The buttons used to be on the left-hand side of the window, but now they're directly to the left of the page text. This means that the pop-out controls for the Listen button now overlap the text. So if I want to be able to read the text at the same time as listening to the TTS, I have to click a second time on the Listen button to hide the pop-up. Then I have to click on it for a third time if I want to stop the TTS.

Additionally, scrolling with the mouse wheel closes the pop-up - I don't think this used to be the case.

Hi Andrew, the overlapping is very unfortunate. I don't think there is a setting for that, or to enlarge the icons in the vertical toolbar. You could file a bug requesting changes: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/

Meanwhile, these issues probably could be modified by using some style rule "hacks," i.e., injecting alternate style rules into the page using an optional userContent.css file. While those kinds of workarounds are not officially supported, it is an option Firefox has provided to users to tweak the browser. Not sure whether anyone already posted something like that during the beta test period.

Should this be reported as one bug or three separate bugs?

I think it's easiest to start with one bug since I suspect all the code changes will be in the same place(s) in the code.
