Firefox update saved credentials problem

cor-el beantwoord
severac

While logging into some sites (not all), using saved credentials and the default password manager, Firefox will offer to update the login information.

The information (the password field) really does change so the prompt is correct but, it's not clear how the change occurred. For example, my password for a website is "password". When I open the login form, Firefox will fill it with saved/correct credentials. After the form is sent/login performed, Firefox will offer to update the credentials. Revealing the password field in the prompt shows that the password is now a 500+ characters hash or something, looking like this:

Some website use JavaScript to modify the password field and possibly copy the password to another hidden field.
If Firefox detects that the password has been modified the Firefox will offer to update the password.
A possible workaround (solution) is to create a login block exception for this website (origin) with the proper protocol (usually https://) via Options/Preferences.

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security: Logins and Passwords: Exceptions.
