Very recently there is an annoying pop up (despite my settings for blocking pops up and virtually everything else) called Maps and Directions Online Promos. I have removed it from my toolbar and it is hidden, but it exists and performing. Can I delete this new tool, or at least stop it from functioning? I'm considering dropping FireFox as my browser which I have used for years because of this.

Hello CJ,

Maps and Directions is not a Firefox tool, but it's a browser hijacker ....

Go to the 3-bar menu => Options => Add-ons => Extensions; if you see anything there that you didn't install yourself : please, remove it.

Also check Windows Control Center and look for anything that shouldn't be there.

Then please run all malware scans that are listed in this article (what one doesn't pick up, the other one might):

Thank you for responding so quickly. Moments after I sent my question, the light came on in my brain and I did exactly what you suggested: removed this hijacker from add-ons. What I don't understand is how it got there since I never "allowed" or "downloaded" or "enabled" anything; it just showed up. I checked my Programs and Features and there is nothing suspicious there. I have not noticed any changes; i.e., homepage changes...etc. Do I need to be concerned at this point?

No need to be concerned if you ran those malware scans.

It's hard to tell how this malware got on your system; it may have "slipped in" when e.g. clicking on some link.

You should be okay now, though.

I am not sure what exactly you mean by Windows Control Center; but I checked my Programs and Features. I also ran a Full System Scan with my antivirus, Norton Security Online. Hopefully this is adequate and I will move on. Thank you for your attention.

My bad; I meant the Control Panel (sorry .... ).

You did everything you should have done - you did a great job !
