Did anyone really think the new startup pages were a good idea?
I'm curious what sort of twisted soul thought ignoring the user's configured start page(s) and displaying a pile of worthless crap telling us how great Firefox is supposed to be, was a good idea. Especially the [unprintable] clown who decided to add this "feature" in an update without providing any information, explanation, or opportunity to opt out.
And, then hiding the information about how to turn this garbage off several pages down is just adding insult to injury.
Guess what, folks, Chrome is looking better and better here.
At least Chrome and Opera both have autofill that actually works properly - including recognizing fields in online forms, while the autofill in Firefox hasn't worked even close to as well for about a year now.
But at least now I know what the developers have been working on that kept them too busy to fix existing bugs -- they were busy inventing a new way to drive users away from Firefox.
Yes, I am venting.
I wasn't quite this annoyed when I first came here, but then I had to try to log in. Due to the number of times Mozilla has changed the login system, I already had THREE saved logins for the site... And none of them worked because they were all with usernames and now the site wants an email address (and, of course, when they made the change they threw away the existing user accounts instead of just using the email address and password that was already associated with the username).
So, yes, I am venting, because I am tired and disgusted.

Your start page was changed? That can be changed back in the settings to any page you want in about:preferences#home . You can disable the "Recommended by pocket" and others there as well. Sorry to hear that you've had an unpleasant experience.

I wouldn't say that my start page was exactly "changed" -- the last ^&$&^$% update ADDED the stupid new garbage page and whenever I opened the browser it would come up with my start page AND the stupid new nonsense, but with the stupid new garbage being the active tab.
The first time I assumed it was a one-time nonsense so I just closed that tab and went about my business. When it kept happening it was really annoying so I tried to find how to make it stop. I had to wade through three or four pages of garbage before I finally got to a page that told me these stupid new pages were supposed to be "recommendations" (they were just damn ads for firefox to me) and then another page before it tole me how to stop them.
I have them stopped for now but I have no confidence that firefox won't turn them on again the next time they feel like pushing more trash at the users or that they won't do something even worse in some future "update."
It is absolutely ridiculous that firefox developers thought it was OK to change the user's settings without asking (or at the very least telling us).
I've already switched my default browser on my Win10 system, and I'm seriously considering switching the default to Chrome on both my Win7 computers. Firefox has fallen way behind both Chrome and Opera (at least on the features that I use regularly)
Switch to Chrome, we'll leave the door open for you when you decide to return to Firefox.
Considering that the Firefox team has spent a year (and numerous "updates") failing to address the problems plaguing autofill, I think that particular door has been pretty close to closed - and this latest travesty may have slammed it completely.
I'm curious about your auto-fill issues. Is it just happening across the board at any site or failing on very particular ones? I'm also wondering if maybe the file handling autofill for forms might be corrupted in some way causing it to fail more often.
Could you explain how the exactly the autofill fails to work? Is it just not recognizing you're on a form & doesn't pre-fill certain fields like Name, Phone Number, Address, etc? Or is it failing in another way? Thanks in advance.
Also apologies for our support site's new login system. This is only the 2nd time it's changed in over 10 yrs. I wouldn't say that's too extreme. Also we've never removed any existing user accounts on our support site. The most we've done is reset passwords for older accounts when we updated our password requirements to be a bit stronger for your safety.

Not across the board, but not just "very particular ones" -- I'd say about 20-30% of various online forms, Firefox eiter competely fails to recognize the form, fails to recognize some fields, or fills some fields with the wrong data.
I think the first two are pretty clear, but when I say it fills the form with the wrong data, I am talking about things like the form that appears at the end of a Walmart Customer Survey where you would fill in your name, address, etc. Firefox insists on wanting to put my email address in the First Name space, then correctly fills the Last Name, and City, skips State and ZIP entirely, then fills my phone number in the correct field.
There are also numerous forms where Firefox wants to put my full name into the First Name field and just ignores the Last Name field.
I have used the Feedback function in Firefox to report dozens of specific online pages where Firefox completely or partly fails to fill out forms. This has been going on for several months (about a year I would guess, but I didn't take note of exactly when it started).
I realize that some autofill problems could be the fault of the way the form itself is coded, but in every case that I have encountered, both Chrome and Opera will autofill the same form correctly.

I don't really know what the deal is because I only visit the support community occasionally -- I will post here when I encounter a problem where I need help (or like this time a problem where I just need to scream a bit). Usually I will be here several times in a few days, then not be back again for several months.
On this last visit, I noticed that Firefox had three previous saved logins for this site -- none of which worked. The only reason I would have had an additional saved login would be if the previous saved login didn't work. I have never seen Firefox remember a login incorrectly (although sometimes it wants to) so I have to assume the only reason for a new saved login would be if the previous saved login failed which in my experience has always been because the site changed something.
Speaking of Firefox remembering logins, that also reminded me of another problem with autofill. Any time Firefox sees (or thinks it sees) any manual change in filling out a form, it asks if the user wants it to update the saved address or create a new one. Asking before making changes is always a good thing, but the problem here is that Firefox doesn't offer any choice of "DO NOTHING" which is what I want 99% of the time when I manually edit a form, such as removing an automatically filled phone number or email address. Just because I changed how I filled out one form doesn't mean that is how I want Firefox to fill out every future form.
I have an issue in thumbnails. They are too small to see.
It's better if they were larger. :D
