Are you using AVG/Avast software or other security software?

If you use Avast then this software might be trying to inject its certificate in Firefox.

You can check the about:policies#active page via the location/address bar to see whether policies are active.

You can inspect the Mozilla and Firefox keys with the Windows Registry Editor in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and possibly in HKEY_CURRENT_USER with the Windows Registry Editor to see whether GPO policy rules are active.

This is what I see:

When I look at the Registry I don't see anything - everything I see says "default" - BUT !!! I did find a folder in there somewhere that said Avast!!! I don't know HOW it got there, but it's there!! I've had to have dl something that it was hidden in, so can I just throw that whole folder labeled "Avast" away? Unfortunately whatever I dl with it in it, I've already gotten rid of so I don't know how to change anything.

Ok I found all kinds of stuff, but it's not just one thing like that "telemetry" thing of the other persons. This is pages and pages of stuff. Holy cow.

Sorry this is in 3 different reply's - trying to figure out what you want and how to get it to you.

What you posted is merely the documentation (description) of all available policies as you can see in the first screenshot. Currently active policies would appear under the Active tab.

What do you see in the Windows Registry ?

It shows those folders, but entries just say "default" I've posted screen grabs. I see where you (I think it was you) told the other user to delete the entire folder named "firefox" - is that what I should do? I'm really paranoid about the registry editor, I don't want to touch it until I verify with you that I should.

Cor-el, I just went ahead and removed the (as you had suggested to another user) FireFox folder - and the notification is gone!! You ARE a Saint!! Thank you so much for your patients with ppl like me, if not for you I would be terrorized by this stupid notice forever!!

Merely the presence of the Firefox key is sufficient to show this warning even when there are actually no policies specified. If you want to remove this warning then delete the Firefox key.

Remove the Firefox key, so there is no Firefox key in Mozilla.

I hope this solution works. I don't know yet whether this solution is helpful to me. Not a techie. I exported that register key specific registry key, before deleting it, so I could "re-import" it in case this doesn't work. Yes, I can learn things, if you are willing to make them CLEAR!

Meanwhile, I can't help to give a "grand prize" for "most cryptic warning" for the human being who invented the notice "Your organization has disabled the ability to change some options."

For consider: If "the organization" is just me, and my computer is just a single Windows 10 box, how in the world would I know what "Your organization has disabled the ability to change some options." could possibly mean ?? How? It's impossible to know.

My question to the Firefox people is this: Why is it so hard for you to put together a list of the most common and even some uncommon "Switches, Options, ON settings, OFF settings, left , right, top, bottom, CHOICES"

with a SPECIFIC DESCRIPTION of what does this button, this choice, this thingi, that concept ACTUALLY DO!?

Why is that so hard for computer people, such as work for Mozilla, Apple, MSFT, Google, Facebook,... to do? Are you all scared that you will be replaced by total automatisation? Is that the reason that you continue to make things "as hidden, mysterious, impractical as possible" ??

Is that the reason that software people seemingly DELIGHT in getting rid of stuff that works, and replacing it with stuff that doesn't work? Just to make sure that solutions that worked before, now don't. I have seen this pattern in numerous software companies, all over the place, over the last 30 years. It's plainly irrational behavior. Are the lot of you just in the business of ANNOYING THE HECK OUT OF YOUR CUSTOMERS?

Those are my questions. If it were in my power, I would make ALL SOFTWARE AND TECH COMPANIES subject to BASIC PRODUCT LIABILITY LAWS. So you guys would put some oomph into your efforts, so that there is a fire lit under your collective butts. It needs to be said: "The software industry is one in which the most lackadaisical people can kanoodle about as if their product was "modern art" or "free jazz"! It'll work, maybe, if we are lucky, and if it doesn't, it's the users fault. Put another way: "The software industry has no sense quality or standards, and we, the people, don't like it that way!"

If you get this message and you do not have a computer that is managed by an IT department then this means that you have other (security) software this misuses this interface for its own purposes. This can possibly be to inject a certificate to be able to monitor your internet activity, so it is up to you to trust this software. The registry key should tell you what software and Firefox setting this is about. Firefox merely shows a warning that somebody is modifying Firefox.

Well, does Avast or Malwarebytes engage in this misuse? I trust these two because I need something better than whatever MSFT provides. I have no idea about what "inject a certificate" means. I have looked at and sometimes modified or deleted Registry keys, when told to do so by experts, but I can tell you that "no registry ever told me anything". These all are about "encrypted gibberish", with no info on meaning, reason, usage, effects, side effects, caveats. Why and how do you think that a registry key provides info that can be understood by the non-expert?

Regular scientists, say, in the pharmaceutical industry, provide loads of info about what a particular drug contains, does, is, what are its reasons, methods, effects, side effects, warnings, drug interactions. This tells me what drug to not even try. Astro-physicists try to explain quarks, dark energy, dark matter, black holes, gravity waves, etc. At least they try.

Computer people, on the other hand, don't even try. An example of this is Mozilla's Thunderbird E-mail software. There is zero information about the "unknowable to the non-expert" setup parameters. It tried to set it up, years ago, but because of insufficient "very basic info", I had to give up on it. Are you guys even aware of how many people tried Thunderbird, but could not make it work, because you guys refuse to provide basic info? I figure you'd have ten million more users if you figured out these basic problems. That's just an example.

same problem: says I can't do something because of 'organization policies' but provides no ability to delete, modify, or otherwise "fix" it, to give my control back. Cryptic certificate bs gives no hint of where it's coming from. GIVE ME BACK MY PC!!!!!
