can't open images after download on windows 10 - "it looks like we don't support this file format"
As of a week or so ago I've been unable to open images downloaded through firefox (65.0.1 64-bit). When I attempt to open them I get the following error - "it looks like we don't support this file format". Images downloaded through chrome work just fine, the problem appears to be something between firefox and windows.
Having done some searching about this I've adjusted my settings to make file extensions visible and I've done a virus scan but neither of these has helped.

Where are the images coming from?
Firefox 65 supports WebP images, so websites do not need to fallback to JPG images.

There are prefs present on the about:config page to control this new feature and let web pages know whether WebP is supported.
You can remove "image/webp," from the accept prefs to prevent getting WebP images send by the server.
- image.http.accept = */* (default: image/webp,*/*)
- network.http.accept.default = text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 (default: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,image/webp,*/*;q=0.8)
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.
Thanks! Any idea why this would be an issue in Firefox and not in Chrome if Chrome is already using the WebP format just fine with the same sites I can't save functioning images from?
On further research I can save them just fine from Twitter and other major sites, but for example:

and https://i2.wp.com/asf-iwa.org.au/assets/Charlie-Brown-2.jpg
both result in files that don't load upon downloading if I save them through Firefox.
The Wordpress looks to be using unsupported format and the charlie brown does say .jpg.
Looks like wordpress doesn't like how firefox display the image. Chrome does list it as .jpg. So you might want to contact Wordpress to see if there is something different on how it handles a Chrome request as compared to firefox request.

What method do you use to save images? If I open each of those in a stand-alone tab, either of these methods leads to a saved JPEG that opens in Paint when I right-click > Edit:
- right-click > Save Image As
- right-click > View Image Info, click image on the list, click the Save As button
