Hi Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center site home page is secure (https://) but when I click on an inside page (resources) I get an invalid certificate warning "The site attempts to identify itself with invalid information". Doesn't matter whether I use Chrome or Firefox I still get the same message.

I tried to access this site a few weeks ago and got the same thing. At that time I changed my computer clock but it didn't make any difference. I viewed the certificate and the dates are valid, apart from that I can't tell much. I will try to upload a screenshot.

I just want to access the online resources for Spanish. I have no intention of giving away my bank account details so I wonder if I can make an exception and consult the site anyway.

If anyone can give any advice I would be really grateful as I don't want to get a virus etc.

Thanks.

Hi Thank you all for your replies. Installing the certificates myself looks like it may be beyond my skillset, but I will give it a go. If that fails, then a temporary exception.

Good advice and thanks again.

Hi Providence1, a lot of military operated sites do not use the commercial certificate providers or participate in Mozilla's program to verify certificate issuers. So it's not unusual to encounter an insecure connection problem trying to use their sites. What Firefox is really saying is that the certificate can't be verified, so you can't be sure it is the "real" site. Therefore, after making an exception, be cautious with sensitive information.

In cases like this, I suggest unchecking the box for making a permanent exception (only make a temporary exception for this session), because otherwise you may forget in the future that this connection has a question mark on it.

You need to install the DoD certificates in Firefox if you need to access such websites in the proper way.
