Search engine jumps from startpage to Google after every restart + Avira extension can't be deleted

Hey there,

since the last update (62.0.3 (64-Bit)) I am havin serious issues with Firefox on my MacBook Pro. I am using Firefor for ages and really enjoy it.

But now I can't get Firefox to keep Startpage as my main search engine, even after installing the startpage extension (https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/startpage-privacy-search-engin/?src=search) I completly reinstalled Firefox and deletet profile files in the library. I also tried clean firefox button - didn't help either.

This brings me to my second problem - after installing Avira anti virus, it also installed an extension (Avira Browser safty). This extension I am not able to remove, there is no 'delte' button - I tried everything, see steps above, but also redownloading the extension and managing to get the delete button to show up. But after the next Firefox retsart the extnesion was there again.

I am not 100% if this has anything to do with Firefox not saving my preferences properly (search engine, etc) I alos got in contact with Avira, but they couldn't help so far.

Both of these issues are really bothering me and I am even thinking aboutr switching browsers - Please help and let me know how to fix this probelm
