How to prevent a problem with prefs.js?
Hi there,
From 2 weeks I can't fix problem with resetting Firefox settings. For almost every 2-3 days: - a Browser signing out me from account (and I have to log in for all time I turn on Firefox) - Firefox always opens with 2 tabs (what's new and firstrun).
To fix it, I used: - Refresh Firefox - clear install - Beta and Stable versions - Tryed to deleting "prefs.js" in my profile folder
But everytime the problem appeared after 2-3 days and again and again.
Now I'm testing a method with "firefox.exe -p".
What else should I do?
Thank you in advance.

Usually corruption of the prefs.js happens when there are issues within the profile such as a dirty update (meaning update to a major version on top of a profile that has gone through at least 1 or 2 other updates) or addons occasionally can cause it too.
Can you try creating a new profile, you don't have to delete your old one, in fact I would suggest you keep that so you can transfer some of your stuff over later. This way you can make sure that something leftover from the past is not conflicting and causing the issue. It is always preferred and recommended that when jumping major version that you create a new profile. Give that a try and see if it still happens.
Thank you for your answer.
I already did it yesterdey :) So I will inform you, if problem is gone or not.
PS. I've one question. Can a problem happens because I've got Nightly version on my PC, but Beta version on Laptop and Phone and have synchronization turn on with this devices?
Great to hear, thanks.
Unfortunately it doesn't work.
Problem still appears. Today, when I opened Firefox, it opens 2 tabs firstrun and privacy policy (additionaly logout me from firefox account and dont save settings). When I restart it, it still happens. So new profile didn't help with it.
What I can add to this problem is: when firefox opened this 2 tabs, it really slows down and work realy hard. Have to wait for basic operations, like type adress or watch Youtube or Facebook (use procesor in 99% in task manager)
Now I'm testing this:
- uninstall firefox
- found and delete files related to Mozilla (all in AppData and Program Files)
- restart notebook
- download and install Firefox Quantum
- log in to my account and synchronize with PC and Mobile.
Thank you in advance for other advices, how to fix the problem.
PS: Found another problem on Nightly and Firefox Quantum (but not connected with problem with kicking me from account). When I open site like twitch.tv, it can't load. Only white screen. But it's less important for me than problem described above.
Unfortunately it doesn't help. Have a problem again :(
