Firefox crashes on many websites, not on others, every time

Firefox 44.0.2 has started crashing every time I go to many specific websites. Others are reliably AOK.

Just for example http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx? Item=N82E16835233101 and http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/149697266X reliably crash. The New Tab page did too until I disabled it in about:config.

Even in FF Safe Mode (from cmd line, Restart menu item doesn't work, nor does Add-on restart, they just shut down). Even with a new Clean Profile.

I get no Mozilla Cash Reporter window and about:crashes shows nothing.

However, no crashes in Windows (XP Pro sp2) Safe Mode.

But I can't see any running processes that relate to FF, and the crashes occur even when I turn off Comodo Free Firewall and Norton Antivirus. Nothing appears in Windows Event Viewer.

I tried Installing a fresh downloaded FF44.0.2 I tried SFC /SCANNOW

I have not tried a full Revo Uninstall then reinstall (hoping not to since I have carpal tunnel).

(A Refresh holds no interest, as it preserves nothing I care about, so I'd skip that and do a clean install if it comes to that.)

Malware scans are clean with Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware.

Much of the above is thanks to working carefully through http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_crashes and https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-crashes-troubleshoot-prevent-and-get-help

I thought it might be a couple Addon updates, but neither removing those addons or FF Safe Mode helped.

I don't have Nvidia NAM or other listed problematic software.

I had one out-of-date Plugin (Silverlight); but Revo Uninstalling Silverlight 4 (and it's 31299 registry entries) didn't help, nor did installing the latest Silverlight 5.1.30514.0 (which FF "Check Your Plugins" calls "outdated".

Thank you very much for your reply, FredMcD!

I did post links in my 2nd paragraph. Here they are again: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/149697266X http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233101

As an example of webpages that produce doesn't crash: googling something.

Type about:preferences#advanced<enter> in the address bar. Select Data Choices. Turn on Enable Crash Reporter.

Weird, I guess I disabled that last time I installed. However, enabling it still didn't result in a Mozilla Cash Reporter window.

I checked both links and had no problem.

Thank you very much for your reply, FredMcD! 1. I've got some new info to report and I'll do so in a separate post soon, but first to answer your requests: 2. I mentioned in my original post that I had already done "Check Your Plugins".

I know that most posters probably don't check many things; I know that my original post was pretty long since I wanted to let people know what exactly I did (everything I could find to do) before coming here.

3. Here's my about:support...

Thank you very much for your reply, cor-el!

I've got some new info to report and I'll do so in a separate post soon, but first I want to reply that as I noted in my original post "I get no Mozilla Cash Reporter window and about:crashes shows nothing" subsequently "Enable Crash Reporter" didn't change that.

New developments (that, aaargh, seem kinda insane):

I noticed I also for some reason had lost the ability to print from WinXP, so I restored a system drive (Ghost) image from a couple weeks ago. Problem temporarily solved.

Then I noticed a Java update, which I applied and the problem returned. No surprise, I forgot I've had an unsolvable Java issue for quite some time reported in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1074985

Previous attempts to upgrade WinXP from Java 7u80 to 8 anything failed. Today's update to 8u73 "succeeded", but triggered this issue. So again problem temporarily solved (once I restored the old image again [and resolved to continue to remain on 7u80]; uninstalling Java and installing 7u80 wasn't enuf hence the 2nd image restore).

Then I upgraded FF from 44.0.1 to 44.0.2. Problem returned again. Again reverting to FF44.0.1 wasn't enuf so I restored the old image again and again temporarily resolved the issue be resolving to remain on 44.0.1 (which was sorta deja vu since as noted in the other thread cited above I was similarly stuck on FF41.0.2 until FF43 came out).

Then I did a couple more things, and the issue returned again. Sigh. Gotta wait 'til tomorrow to do yet another restore and then more testing. One of the "couple things" that preceeded the latest return of the problem was running SpywareBlaster.

I'm really stumped at so many different things causing this issue. And I'm kinda nervous that my disability is gonna keep me from whatever solution is necessary.

All those restores could cause problems with the program data. I don't want to say this, but a suggestion would be to totally remove those programs and data. Then get the current full installers. Install these one at a time, looking for any problems. Sorry :-/

Thank you for your reply, FredMcD!!

I think I will un/re-install FF from scratch, thanks!

Though my experience with restores is that that they are perfect; identical copies which identically reverse time to their creation. I have no concern about restores.

I certainly can appreciate that the images being restored might be problematic if the created with programs running, which I make sure to avoid.
