you might want to create a backup of your profile folder first, before you try that in order to avoid data loss: Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles

hello macshanemike, when you type about:sync-log into the address bar and open the latest one or two error logs, can you copy their contents and put them into http://pastebin.mozilla.org/ or a similar service and paste a link here on the forum? this would be very helpful in assessing the problem. thank you!

also there appears to be a user.js file present in your system, which (unless you've created it manually yourself) might be a sign of adware that is active on your system since it overrides your custom preferences. therefore i'd recommend to run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner, which are specialised in adware and browser hijackers.

thank you, the source of the error seems to be a database error in your history - if you don't depend on that, you could disable the synchronisation of history altogether within the firefox options...

1422699786777   Sync.Status        DEBUG   Status.service: success.status_ok => error.sync.failed_partial
1422699786777 Sync.ErrorHandler DEBUG history failed: database disk image is malformed No traceback available

The history is important to me as I often refer to past sites and pages if I haven't bookmarked them

I did the backup and restore but my history is gone, and syncing is working. New issue, how to I restore my history if I moved the backed up file to replace the new one?

the history is recorded with the file places.sqlite in your profile folder while firefox is closed. so you could copy it from your backup and paste it into the current profile (which might reintroduce the syncing issue again though).

I did that but the history seems to have been erased

how did you proceed exactly in the first place?

I closed firefox, moved the profile file back to the firefox placement and reopened firefox, but no history

no, i meant the steps before that (i'm trying to establish when/how the history was lost originally)...

  • so first you created a copy of your whole existing profile folder in a different location? (was the history still there in firefox afterwards?)
  • did you run the places maintenance addon - was the history gone after this step?

The History was there before running the addon and gone afterwards

ok thanks - what's the filesize of the backed-up places sqlite file - bigger than 10.240kb?

if so, you could try again to delete the places.sqlite (& places.sqlite-shm and places.sqlite-wal in case they are present) in your actual profile folder and reimport them into the profile from your backed up location.

if this still doesn't work you could also try to create a new empty profile and import the files starting with the places from your backup folder again: Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles

It Turns out the history is too corrupted to be able to be used, I will have to view it as a txt file if I wish to visit past pages or websites

Thank you for helping me solve my issue otherwise
