Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.

It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

Not being able to restore it is kind of stupid. I visited that page for so many times and now can't find anything. Where can I try to find backup?

I assume I made the same mistake when cleaning up History. I no longer see Facebook.com URLs in my browsing history, only m.facebook.com URLs, and I can no longer bookmark a Facebook page.

If so, can anyone suggest a scheme for reversing this? Could I create a new Profile and import settings and bookmarks?

If there's another situation that could cause the same symptoms, maybe there's something else I could try.

Make sure that you aren't zooming pages and that the window is wide enough.

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

Firefox saves data from all visits to sites except for Facebook, even when visiting different pages at Facebook. If I open Facebook, and pick any name or user that appears, then try to bookmark it, although the toolbar "star" zooms as if it's creating the bookmark, the bookmark can't be found. When I open History, all recent sites appear except Facebook.

I've only used the m.facebook.com example because I've used it to "cheat" bookmarks by using an equivalent page from the m.facebook.com site. m.facebook.com isn't blocked (if that's what's happening).

I've cleared all cookies that have Facebook as part of the name, and cleared the cache.

Dragging a Facebook page to the bookmarks panel has no effect: nothing appears.

I've tried dragging a bookmark from another site (it doesn't matter what), and substituting the Facebook URL, and it doesn't take: the Location simply returns to the URL of the original site.

Baffled.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

I'm glad you mentioned Places Maintenance, since I'd bookmarked that as something to try.

I installed the Places Maintenance add-on and ran it. It reported the database as corrupt. I let it do its repair, and it did. After it ran, I still had my bookmarks, but all History was gone. I was able to bookmark a Facebook page, so that problem was resolved.

Is t here a way to retrieve the History, which would be nice to have? I saved all the Places* files before running the repair.

When you remove the places.sqlite file or the PM extension does this then Firefox will use the most recent backup in the bookmarkbackups folder to rebuild places.sqlite. There is no backup of the history, so the history can't be restored and is always lost in cases like this where a new file is created.

You could try to place that corrupt places.sqlite file in a new profile to see if any history shows in the History Manager. If that is the case then you can try to copy the history to a text file or to a bookmarks folder in the Library of your current profile folder. For the latter you would have to run both instances at the name time by adding the -no-remote switch to the command line. Make sure to remove any other places.sqlite file (-shm and -wal in particular).

You can add -no-remote to the command line to open another Firefox instance with its own profile and run multiple Firefox instances simultaneously.

I'd thought of SqliteManager, since I already had it installed. I opened it, and found that the moz_places table in the places.sqlite database, had 12,397 rows, showing at the end the most recent visited places, and older rows appear to go far back in history. Of course these are not showing as Firefox "History". It doesn't appear that I can copy the entire table in one action, since I can display and select only 100 rows at a time.

The BrowsingHistoryView looks very interesting.
