Malwarebytes didn't detect it?! That's some crazy malware.

Anyway, here's what I think you should do:

Look in your Add/Remove Programs list in Control Panel for shady programs and uninstall them.

After that, with Firefox open, press ALT on your keyboard, click Tools>Add-ons, and look for any suspicious or unfamiliar addons and either click the "Remove" or "Disable" button next to them.

Then, download Extension Defender from the Mozilla Add-ons page and perform a scan with it. (It detects dangerous add-ons which are installed on Firefox).

Next, reset your homepage. Press ALT on your keyboard; click Tools>Options. Go to General tab and click the Restore to Default button under Startup.

If none of those steps really help, I unfortunately think that you'll have to reset Firefox.

Note: After resetting Firefox, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Reset Firefox:

1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
   • Click the menu button , click help and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
   • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Reset Firefox" that looks like this: . Click on it.
3. Firefox will close and reset. After it is done, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Also, go to your Add-ons page and disable everything there, then go to the websites. Does the same thing happen?

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.

I did try that! alco PC and just FF safe mode etc... I tracked it backwards to 9/27 with a realplayer extension update, a flash extension update and a flash blocker extension ( through FF get add on's) I'm still not able to get on target or walmart- which is a bummer because I am a huge BF, CM shopping fan. Oh, well. ALl 3 browsers ( thus the machine) are affected newset IE, newest Chrome and this FF. I took out and put back in with no extensions- still problems. It also turned of system restore points past a few days ago- one smart bugger. Firefox is my browser of choice and the only one used 99.9% of the time so the origin is here ------somewhere- I hope the solution is as well.

Have you tried download. cnet. com /AdwCleaner/3000-7786_4-75851221.html ADW Cleaner? If you didn't ADW Cleaner is bound to fix that issue. It specializes in browser hijackers. Download it, run it, and do a scan. Clean any threats!

Thanks for the advice- I note that and raise you a "removed all ad-ons and such because I am so done with this." Here's an update: Using manual and automated software like Malwarebytes, Spybot, Microsoft security essentials, CC cleanser, etc , my machine has had a thorough thorough cleansing and polishing. Now, this HP WIN 7 pos machine is humming like a sports car, but I still cannot access Target or Walmart Retail sites. I reset my Verizon router (unplugged that puppy overnight) and have no parental control or security blocking going on. Apparently, somewhere along the line, I got screwed from using the sites for Black Friday. I tried all other sites that I may have the urge to go to and they're fine. Target attempts get a port error or blank page in any browser, and the occasional target-4-you viral redirect. I can get to walmart using "wal-mart" but no links , shopping carts, etc work beyond that. Pinging the sites and using control panel to "access the internet or a particular website" yield no problems. Guess I am missing some shopping deals this year, the bargain gods want me to pay full retail.

Do this for me: go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc, right click the file called hosts, and open it in Notepad. Copy down everything in there and message it here.

Disregard this message until I've given you my OK to do this. I need to make sure that the problem isn't something simple with your hosts file.

Try clearing your cookies.

1. Click the menu button , choose History, and then Clear Recent History....
2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
5. Now click the Clear now button.

See if you still have the 4-you.net redirect after that.'

If that doesn't work, you might have something wrong which you can only resolve by resetting Firefox. Especially if you've tried everything else.

Hostfile entries are used to byepass the DNS lookup. 127.0.0.1 should be ideally pointing to localhost.

I would recommend to look for the program: Spybot - Search & Destroy , disable it and then reset the host file using instructions here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972034

If that doesn't work, it could be because of a rootkit malware. Try the TDSSKiller ( http://usa.kaspersky.com/downloads/TDSSKiller ) or something else like trend micro's Rootkit Buster All .

That must fix it. If it doesn't you may have to contact your PC's OEM or Microsoft.

Note that the extra items in the hosts file are added by Spybot - Search & Destroy, so you need to check the setting there about how to modify or remove those items. Otherwise it is likely that Spybot will restore those items at some time.
