as above... THIS REALLY IS A PROBLEM

See here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/974954

AND HERE: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1000206

And what appears to be a very dismissive reply from Microsoft "google products" ?! https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/9wuH1qC9fKQ

My extra window: is www.69A.com whois: http://dig.whois.com.au/whois.php?dom=69a.com&secondary=1

I have BRAND NEW OEM install from Lenovo: W7, updated. Lenovo Think Center M93p: standard customizations.

Very paranoid re connecting to web for updares downloads, no warez or cracks, behind a router, NIS in place , all installs scanned prior to running. Only Firefox 29 via stub with usual extensions ( NOScript as one of the first) and Office 365. Flash plugin installed. Other standard plugins.. No freeware added as yet

Even with IE as default, clicking the link opens FF 3 windows. !! Wot ? Flushed cache and cookies.. Scanned with all known scanners: cookies etc, nil else

Uninstalled Firefox. Ran the office > my account link: no extra windows  :(

What is this ?? .... PLEASE MOZILLA SORT THIS OUT. going ahead without FF would be a pain.

Regards

I do not even use Windows most of the time, and certainly do not use MS Office 365. (I use Libre Office and that: may be used on Windows & other OS, is free & relatively compatible with MS Office files. )

I did thank FirefoxOffice365User for the post but wanted to allow others to reply. That looks like a good investigation and explanation of the problem.

Try posting on Mozillazine If it is a bug with MS or Cloud based software it is off topic here. You could however try posting on Mozilazine where I am sure they will be interested and able to confirm the facts and assist with any bug filing.

? File a Mozilla Bug (use) Someone could try filing a Mozilla Bug for it, at least that would record the problem, and someone could take it up as an evangelism project. Let's face it it has a direct impact on use of Firefox. Firefox is blamed for the fault, and it is something that must be used by Millions of Firefox users. Correction appears a bug has been filed see post upthread Update

  • Bug 1023408 - Office365 url opens random 2nd tab
  • Please do not comment unless information is requested etiquette
  • But you could vote (it required a public email address) & follow the bug {With the [CC] box checked click on save changes }

File a Microsoft Bug I suspect in fact they will be aware of the issue and have no desire to fix it because they may need to offer alternative browsers in some jurisdictions, but will probably have no desire to help users of those browsers. However unless you try you do not find out. I am not sure of my facts here but I think as an ordinary users it is a case of explaining the problem to MS support and escalating the complaint until they file a bug. Clearly having well documented Steps To Reproduce and a forum where you have others agreeing it is reproducible could be an advantage with trying to do that. I think this is the bug list

@FIrefoxOffice365User- That is still strange, would this be how the browser interprets the url? Hey Longboard: that is strange, what language do you see after the url, mine is:https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../1004509, notice the en-US. Is this different? If so that may be what is causing the different language.

For people still looking...

If you trace everything with Procmon you will see that this is a simple issue of not putting Quotation marks around Command line arguments.

That is what Office is executing as you click that "Manage Account" button. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" http://o15.officeredir.microsoft.com/r/rlidOfficeManagementPortal?ver=15&app=outlook.exe&clid=111&p1=1&lidhelp=1111&liduser=1111&lidui=1111&MachineKey=11111-111-111111 66F

So there is a MachineKey generated with a space in it. What happens if you execute this in cmd… Correct – Firefox will assume that 66F is a 2nd argument in this case a URL and translate it to www.66f.com after not finding a DNS record for 66F in the local environment. Of course ChinaHackers will figure this out too and maybe use this… but then I couldn’t find anything strange with the 66f website.

As in this case: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" FirstTab 2ndTab Same thing with Chrome as well: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" FirstTab 2ndTab

This is not a Firefox issue MS should just bloody put his Urls in Quotation marks! "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" “http://o15.officeredir.microsoft.com/r/rlidOfficeManagementPortal?ver=15&app=outlook.exe&clid=111&p1=1&lidhelp=1111&liduser=1111&lidui=1111&MachineKey=11111-111-111111 66F”

Now feel free to write Microsoft ...
